Anyone get it in Florida?

My mail has seriously never been this late.

For those of you who’ve gotten in, how were your test scores assuming you took it multiple times? I took the SAT 4 times and everything basically plateaued, never beat my first scores with the exception of math (which went up twenty points second and fourth times). Is that a good thing or a bad thing for Georgetown?

Deferred. 1520/1600 SAT, Hispanic, Pretty Good ECs and RECs. Top 3% of class. Below average GPA though (3.65). Expecting it but pretty bummed out regardless.

I live in Western PA (~3 hours from DC) and I STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN MY LETTER! Mail just came and it’s not in there. I’m starting to worry it got lost in the mail or they didn’t send it for some reason. Anyone know what I should do?

Deferred with 32 act, 4.0 uw, hardest possible course load, active member of 8 ec’s, president or captain of 4, 150 hours of service. Really bummed but expected it. Congrats to all who were accepted.

Teacher Recommendation: My French teacher and my English teacher, haven’t read their recs but I guess they like me.

Counselor Rec: I know she likes me.

- Essays: Short Essay: Strong. I spoke of my close involvement with the local hospital volunteer program and how I found peace through helping others. I related it to my interest of becoming a doctor and how I was committed to a life of service.

1st Essay: Strong. I took somewhat of a creative stance and described myself as “me.” I wrote about my inability to be defined or boxed-in by the concretes of my background (biracial, gay, intellectual, etc.). I related my inability to be described by just one label to Georgetown’s broad, and diverse background.

2nd Essay: Moderate. I wrote about visiting Georgetown over the summer and how I fell in love with their sense of community, inclusion, and their mission statement of “Men and Women for Others.”

Teacher Recommendation: One was beyond fantastic. The other I did not have the chance to read.

Counselor Rec: Did not get to read.

Interview: I think that it went well? She was very relaxed and relatable, but she was hard to read. My interest in Georgetown was brazenly apparent.

Reflection
- Strengths: Essays, Extracurriculars, GPA, Interest in school, Rigor of high school career
- Weaknesses: Test scores (SAT scores, lack of SAT II’s)
- Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think that I showed immense passion and interest for Georgetown and a desire to do good with the education that I would receive there. I made my “mission statement” clear and expressed how I would grow, not only intellectually, at GU.

General Comments: I was 95% sure that I got deferred because of my lacking SAT scores and nonexistent SAT II tests. For those of you that didn’t take the subject tests: There is hope!

Counselor Rec: no idea, probably a 7-8/10

Interview: Bad. The guy is known for not liking kids from my school, he was 45 minutes late, and he spent half the interview talking about himself. He never even asked me why I liked Georgetown.

Other
- Applied for Financial Aid?: No

- State (if domestic applicant): FL
- School Type: Public with high-performing IB program inset

Reflection
- Strengths: 36 on ACT, very passionate about my ECs
- Weaknesses: might not have looked at 36, essays were bad, and maybe it looked like I padded my resume for EC positions?
- Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Well…look at what I listed as my weaknesses.

General Comments:

For everyone terrified about NHS, I got accepted this morning so there are some of us out there!!!

Stats:

Objective:
- SAT: 720 CR 740 Math

- GPA: 4.31 W
- AP: didn’t send AP scores but took AP US History for 2 years
- Senior Year Course Load: AP English, AP French V, AP Bio, AP Psych, Calculus Honors, Orchestra
- Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): KEY award from local hospital for volunteering, National French awards for the past 3 years, national honor society, etc

- Extracurriculars/Volunteer/Community service (place leadership in parenthesis): orchestra (treasurer), hospital volunteer for 5 years, tri-m music honor society (secretary), national technical honor society (president), part time job, i play viola and piano.

Job/Work Experience: mentioned this above, part time job 15-18 hours a week. I also have an internship at the hospital that I have volunteered at for the past few years.

Essays:

My extracurricular essay was about my capstone project for my internship. My hospital didnt have any cultural diversity classes or regulations so I designed an interactive web resource to teach the hospital staff about different medical views

Personal essay: I work at an ice cream shop, so I wrote about myself through the flavors… For example I would say I am like the familiar ‘Chocolate’, the indulger in guilty pleasures, lounging on my couch with eyes glued to the Food Network. I didn’t boast in this essay it was a lot about me as a person.

Why NHS/interest in medical field: I did a summer program at Georgetown and I passed out/threw up when I saw a dead body. I talked a lot about how despite the negative experience nothing can ever deter my dream to be a doctor. Both of my essays had very humorous tones. The last sentence of this one was, hopefully I will be welcomed back to St. Mary’s Hall (NHS Admissions location/where my summer program was) with open, and preferably living, arms.

Teacher Recommendation: My AP History teacher, she was my one B+ all through high school and I tried so hard in that class, she knew me very well as a person and knew my obsession with this school. I also asked my Math teacher because math is my best subject.

Counselor Rec: She knows me pretty well, and definitely knows that Georgetown was my #1

Interview: My interview went very well, he told me I was ideal for the school. We got along but talked for only 40 minutes (Which felt short to me).

Other
- Applied for Financial Aid?: No

- State (if domestic applicant): New Jersey
- School Type: Public
- Ethnicity: Caucasian
- Gender: Female

- Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Absolutely none

Reflection
- Strengths: I really liked my essays
- Weaknesses: Test scores
- Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Honestly i have no idea I’m still in shock

taylor - besides, a 34 on the ACT is pretty great. You would have to get like a 2250 on the SAT to match that. You have a great resume, I am sure. Elite private schools just can’t take all the qualified applicants. Tough pill to swallow sometimes, but you have at least one offer I know that is really great ; ) Let Gtown know you are still interested, but beyond that there is little you can do.

I just got accepted EA to Georgetown. I am incredibly ecstatic right now.

Essays?
Essay 1: I wrote about my experiences in Speech and Debate and as a retreat leader and how those 2 came together and made me. I thought using those 2 as “examples” of who I was did a pretty good job of portraying me, but I ultimately wasn’t super stoked about the essay.
Essay 2: I really love Georgetown and I think it shone through in my second essay (why Georgetown). I was very happy with this one.

Recommendations: Got two from an awesome math teacher and my AP US History teacher who is also a debate coach, she knows me really, really well.
