My son is an international student and he was accepted with a Benjamin Rush scholarship

where is your son from collegeboys?
my boyfriend is an international student and he was accepted. I got deferred though :(

Got in with Benjamin Rush scholarship!

Quick stats:
Female, white, parochial school
ACT: 31
Classes: mostly honors; school offers no APs, 3.92 GPA weighted, State Scholar, Nat’l Merit commended
ECs: NHS, Debate (president), Fantasy Science Fiction (founder and pres), Color Guard (captain), Band (section leader, secretary), youth group (leads many retreats–not just hanging out watching church movies or something), girl scouts (camp counselor, on many council boards)

We live in Australia

Anyone know the Dickinson history of “deferred” being admitted regular decision – likely? maybe? not-going-to-happen? S was deferred here but offered pretty big $$$ at two other similar colleges.

Realize that this year’s EA/ED was exceptionally large group but unsure if that means that those who would have applied RD went EA/ED instead or if ALL application numbers are up (meaning greater competition for everyone, including RD).

To what other schools was your son accepted?

We’ve been in touch with a regional admissions rep, and it sounds like a ton more kids applied EA than RD. EA apps were up 45%. Overall, their apps were at an all-time high, but clearly a lot more applied early. So maybe the RD pool won’t be so competitive. Good luck!

@researching4emb – Thanks so much for passing the info on. My S also followed up with Admissions and they, of course, were very gracious and encouraged him to stay interested.

@raiderade – Two small midwestern LAC’s (one with big merit award, waiting to hear on $$$'s at the other), two medium sized LAC’s (one with big merit award, the other with a smaller scholarship + chance for more) and a large midwest state school. Feel free to pm me.

My S was excited to be accepted with a $5000 Deans scholarship (don’t see that one listed on their website). Dickinson is one of his top two favorite schools.

I admit to being overly optimistic and had hoped for a much larger amount of merit money - and, in fact, very much need a far greater amount to make the school affordable. Oh well, in hindsight (and after rereading the scholarship criteria) I realized that although my son has the grades, scores, and is a three season varsity athlete he pretty much has no community service or real leadership activities – both things mentioned in the scholarship descriptions. Now after hearing about the dramatic increase in EA apps – I’m just glad he was accepted:)

Did any of you EA’s actually receive an acceptance/deferral/rejection letter from Dickinson in the mail yet? We haven’t heard received anything in the mail yet. Strange.

Yes, my D got a package from Dickinson a week and a half ago.

Thanks. My son got deferred and it does not look like they are mailing the deferred letters. That is very odd.

My S was also deferred and we inquired about a letter as our mail delivery was halted for a week due to unusual snow conditions and we feared that it might be lost. The Admissions rep didn’t say one way or the other if letters were actually sent. Did you ever get one? Admissions encouraged my S to stay interested and submit all financial aid information as planned.

No, we never received a letter. Instead we received an email about two weeks later asking for my son’s mid year grades. I don’t believe the email mentioned that he was deferred either but I’m not sure. I don’t have the email in front of me but I do remember that I wasn’t impressed with the email. I am still surprised that they still have not sent my son a letter and I find that bizzare and unprofessional. Oh well.
