EA or regular decision

Scores from the June SAT session were released earlier today. I didn't do so well: 760 Math IIC, 720 Chem. My reasoning score isn't all that great either-2160 (taken in March).

It was mentioned to me that the applicant pool for EA is stronger and that's why the acceptance rate is higher than that of regular decision. I had hoped to apply EA, but the problem is that I'm not sure whether I should retake the reasoning test or the subject tests. The October test session is the only chance I have. If I retake both tests, then I'd have to apply regular decision. Any suggestions as to what I can/should do?

Thanks

Since Caltech places a relatively high importance on scores, it would probably be to your advantage to wait. What was your math score on the reasoning test?

Is Caltech your first choice or are there other schools you want to apply EA to? I don’t think EA would do much for you unless you are just hoping to avoid writing more applications later.

Those scores aren’t a reason to not apply EA. If the adcomm wants to see another round of scores, they will defer you to RD, at which point your application will get reviewed all over again. On the other hand, there’s no particular reason to apply EA except for wanting to find out early, so if you’re really worried about it just wait for RD.
