HI, I am in the process of my eagle project bu i ve heard that it only helps if you have it to look good on application, not if your in the process of it. is that true? or is it still helpful to say that I am working on my eagle project??

You can say you’re working on it, but it would be far more valuable to say you’ve gotten your Eagle. “Working on it” means there’s a chance you won’t get it it. It also kind of means you’ve been procrastinating, not exactly a great attribute, and I should know, I’m World Champion.

I am actually still 16 years old, and I am a senior. If I emphasize that, will It still be seen as something small.

If you were 18 it would look like procrastination. At 16, yes, that makes a difference. State that you are in the process of completing an approved Eagle project. Yes, there is still a possibility you won’t finish or will run into issues at Board of Review, and it would look better to be done, but given your age it’s perfectly reasonable to still be in process. Congrats!

Being 16 does make a difference, but I would say that you did know you were a senior. However, it’s not that big a deal. If you can get it done soon enough, you can send an update to colleges saying you’ve got it before they make their decision.

Congratulations, that’s great! It is fine to put that you are working on your Eagle Scout Project. Use Scouting as one of your activities. List Life Scout, then Eagle project in process or working on Eagle project or Eagle project approved and in process. You can also include other roles you have had in the troop (ie. Senior Patrol Leader or Patrol Leader), number of community service hours, number of years in scouting, etc. My son had not achieved Eagle when he applied to college. Under Activities, he listed Scouting as his first activity and included: Life Scout and Eagle Project completed… He also wrote a short answer about his experience in Scouting. I think this was an important part of painting an accurate picture of who he is and that it helped his application. Most importantly, attaining Eagle helped his growth as a person. Best wishes on finishing Eagle!

Thank you so much for the help and good wishes. i appreciate it very much.

Late to this discussion, but I just wanted to add that I don’t think it necessarily means that you’ve been procrastinating if you are working on your Eagle project as a senior (especially if you are only 16). Many scouts earn Eagle as seniors, and it varies by area of the country (and even by troop) how early scouts typically earn Eagle. I agree with lacgrad in terms of what to say about it.

Eagle Scout candidate…DS listed it this way 4 years ago as he had quite a few EA schools and early scholarship opportunities. He was awarded Eagle later that winter. Good luck to you. Eagle is a wonderful accomplishment that will stay with you for life!!
