I’m going to apply EA, and I’d appreciate some opinions on whether or not I have a good chance of being accepted in December.

SAT: 1500/1600; 2260/2400
SATII: 760, 720
GPA: 4.7 weighted (on a 4 point scale)
All honors throughout high school, with 6 AP classes
Good ECs with leadership, and lots of community service
Good essay, I still need to finish it though
Great recommendations

Dear sugarcookie : With “good” ECs, “lots” of community service, “good” essays, and “great” recommendations, what is there to say? Seems that you have already annointed yourself for admission. Next time, how about sharing the lots, good, and great details?

On grades alone, you are fine, but a simple academic search could have turned up those details. Our guess is that you will provide little attention to the essay, not be accepted, and then turn to the college confidential community wondering why Boston College demonstrates the “Tufts Syndrome”.

Thank you for your input, but please do not make that kind of assumption about me. I have seen people like the ones you described on these message boards frequently, but I was simply wondering if anyone out there knew about the range of SAT scores and grades that are normally admitted early action, as opposed to the released stats for regular decision. I would love to list all of my extracurriculars so that I could get more accurate advice, but unfortunately most of it is so specific to my school and my community that someone who might know me would know exactly who I am and someone who is not familiar with my background would not fully understand some of the things on my list (I clarify extensively on my applications). Thank you again, though, for reminding me why I do not like to post on this website. I let the stress of application season convince me to turn here for input, but now I remember that this site is completely useless for that. I will continue to visit the site for the actual results threads, but this is my first and last “chance” thread.

sugarcookie, the last poster wasn’t very nice, but my D was admitted early with stats similar (although less than) yours. Her EC’s were okay, and her essay was good, but would it have won a competition - not. I would say you are a extremely high match for EA. Good luck to you.

numbers-wise, you have a high probability of admission and are more than good enough for EA. But, BC is holistic and has WL’ed/rejected such high numbers in the past in favor or meaningful, passionate EC’s and essays.
