Son just received a letter from the Lyle School of Engineering informing him that he’d been selected for a “Discovery Scholarship” that would stack on top of the Second Century that he was awarded with his acceptance package. We feel quite fortunate for these awards and look forward to visiting the campus next month.

@jennie11 - the percentage of students who are accepted from the deferred pool changes every year depending on the size of the deferred pool and overall quality of the applicant pool. Sorry I can’t give you a percentage, it’s not reported. If your deferral was changed to an acceptance, your profile would be evaluated for scholarships. To be competitively positioned for scholarships, you would want to fall in the top half of our mid- 50%.
Mid-50% is 3.3-3.7 GPA on unweighted 4.0 scale, 1270-1400 SAT on 1600 point scale, and 28-32 on ACT.
Hope that helps, best of luck to everyone!
@Lilly119 , thank you for the info. We’re good on the GPA for that mid 50%, but fall slightly short on the ACT score. Hopefully they’ll look at course schedule and GPA more than test scores.
Another really helpful way to view this type of information, if you are a data “junkie,” is in SMU’s Common Data Set which is readily available on the SMU website. Just type in “common data set” in the search bar and then go to 2014 for the latest information.
We reached out to the admissions office and they resent the admission packet. This would be his first pick, however he did not get into the business scholars or business direct and the scholarship is not enough when we compare it to the A&M offer:(
Any word on when President’s Scholars are announced?
Son is in University Honors, BBA Scholars, wondering if that is total package? Other schools heavily recruiting, b/c he is a Nat’l Merit Finalist.
