Is applying early action worth it if School of Music admissions has its own timeline and acceptance is dependent on the audition?
Yes, because applying early may be mandatory for consideration for merit money. So get going!
When my kid applied, he applied to a few programs that had their first auditions either right before or right after Thanksgiving. He auditioned at Duquesne the weekend before Thanksgiving and had his acceptance with merit offer by the day before Thanksgiving. The Hartt School had auditions the very first weekend of December. He did that one too…and had his acceptance with merit offer by Christmas (I will add, in both cases, his music merit offers increased during the application season).
In both cases, his applications needed to be at the colleges before they would schedule an audition. Actually, I believe no school would schedule an audition until application was completed.
My kid actually just did all of his applications before October 15…because he figured if he was doing one, he might as well do them all! This was before the common ap.
I’m not sure if either of these schools still has those early audition dates…but if they do, it’s sure nice to have a couple of auditions done before the big audition time after the first of the year.
And of course, the first acceptances are always sweet to receive.
You are right that early action may not matter for music admittance or talent scholarship, but it may for academic admittance and academic merit money depending on the school.
