I am seeing that some schools require that you apply early (not necessarily early decision or action but by a date earlier than the normal deadline) if you want to be considered for merit aid. Does anyone have such a list already? If not, perhaps we should start one here I know Ohio State University falls into this category.
It’s not just “apply early for merit aid” that needs to be considered.
Many conservatories and universities have “early” deadlines for pre-audition screening and audition scheduling. Pre-Covid, December 1 was very common. I’ve noticed some relaxation of deadlines in the past couple years.
Potential music majors are well served by checking the requirements in the junior year or earlier. In addition to the standard essays, recommendations, and grade and test submissions, the audition repertoire is often planned a year or so in advance by serious students and their teachers. (Repertoire may not necessarily be learned, but a teacher may be guiding and planning with the students.)
