DD accepted via email with Trustee scholarship - yippee!

Congratulations! Did you hear about merit aid via email? My S got an email acceptance but it didn’t mention aid and we are still waiting for the real letter in the mail.

No mention of any merit aid in my son’s e-mail either, and we are also eagerly awaiting the official acceptance letter in the mail. We were hoping to get it yesterday, but maybe today. . .

^ Yay!! The acceptance folder arrived today. The letter is so nice, and I really appreciate that they used the name he actually goes by (his middle one) in the salutation rather than his first name that he doesn’t use. He has been awarded a Trustee Scholarship too, which is exciting. I’m wondering if that merit award knocks down any need-based aid or if it’s in addition to need-based aid. That might make all the difference for us. Anyway, we are looking forward to visiting the campus. Accepted student day is in April, but I’d really love for us to go down before then!

S also got the beautiful folder today and also the Trustee Scholarship. S was very happy. I am looking forward to Accepted Students Day!

DS received packet today and Global Scholars Scholarship. We will attend accepted students day.

D received beautiful folder yesterday with Alumni Scholarship. Looking forward to visiting the school.

DD received her packet today with Global Scholars Scholarship, but we likely will not be visiting :(

Lots of scholarships - congrats to everyone who got one!!

Yay! Got a president’s scholarship!! Still super expensive school though! :(

Yes, carolynleekidd, it’s still super expensive. S got his financial aid award over the weekend, and he didn’t get anything more than the merit scholarship besides work study and the maximum allowable student loan (100% unsubsidized). Not sure how seriously we’ll consider Goucher now. With this economy, I don’t want him to be maxed out with unsubsidized loans, and given that the merit award will stay the same all four years while tuition will surely increase, we would be looking at a very tough four years. As positively as I think of Goucher, almost no one I know has ever heard of it, and it would be very difficult for us to justify the financial pain for him to go there. We had been planning a trip there so S could spend the night on campus, but we’re putting that on the back burner. I hope others received more encouraging packages than he did though!

I too was hesitant and almost refrained from applying to the school due to cost. Glad I made the decision to apply though. Just from another perspective I had a great experience with financial aid. Between merit aid and grants, my entire tuition is covered and I also have the federal loans on top of that. So, when looking into it, keep an open mind!
