Early Action: restricted or no?

I'm having trouble finding information about this elsewhere on the web.

Some of the colleges I'm considering applying to (namely Goucher and Pitzer) have Early Action plans instead of ED. How do I find out whether these programs are restricted (single-choice) or not?

On a related note, is it possible to apply ED to one school, EA (unrestricted) to some others, and then just withdraw your app if you get into the ED school?

Yikes. I guess no one knows much about this?

It depends on the schools...you have to check that out at each college's website. Usually colleges do let you do what you said (very few colleges have SCEA, but if they do they will tell you). Some EA colleges won't let you apply anywhere ED, and some ED colleges won't let you apply anywhere EA so you need to check for all of the schools that you are interested in. If you can't find anything about it, then contact the admissions people or ask a GC.

JTC007 is right: check each school's website. If a school offers ED or SCEA, they often say that you can't apply to any other school, but you should check the websites. EA schools usually don't have any restrictions on you applying to other EA or RD schools.

I checked out the websites, and they both look like just regular EA, not SCEA.

I believe EA, by defition, is non-binding. I applied to three schools EA, and that was the case for all of them.

It makes sense that you should be able to apply to one school ED and as many as you want EA.

For Goucher, you can apply EA and apply ED somewhere else, and RD wherever you want - it's an "unrestricted" EA.

Don't know about Pitzer.

When in doubt, email or call the AO.

EA is completely optional and has no bind, as a rule. So you should be able to apply to an EA program in addition to an ED.

But the more selective schools (like Yale & Stanford I believe) have SCEA - they allow you to apply non-binding EA to their school but you CANNOT apply EA to any other school. I guess rolling admissions would be ok, otherwise you have to do RD at all schools.
