If I apply EA to Harvard (or any school really) and am rejected, can I still reapply for regular decision?
Many things I have read say if I am outright rejected, then I cannot reapply regular decision, but if I am deferred, then I can reapply.
What are my chances of being accepted EA or even being deferred from Harvard with the following scores? Should I apply EA or would I get outright rejected and lose my opportunity to raise my SAT score during the december sat? Do I have a REAL shot at deferral (giving me the opp to better the SAT score in december).
Also, I have not sent my SAT scores to Harvard yet, is it too late for them to recieve it by Nov. 1 deadline or should I still try? Also, I take the subject tests Nov 7… will they get delivered on time for EA?
Unweighted GPA: I am not really sure how colleges will calculate an unweighted GPA, is it just 4 for an A, 3 for a B… etc? For my school, it is 5 for an honors/ap A, 4 for a regular class A, and goes down a point for each letter grade down. Weighted in my school’s system, my GPA after six semesters is a 4.495
Class Rank: 10%
SAT Breakdown: 650R 700W 760M = 2110
SAT II (taking Lit, Math I and Math II next weekend)
Course Rigor: 8 total AP classes, and everything honors that was offered to me (electives and health and gym could not be honors)
Awards: I get the Scholastic Honors every year
ECs
Student Council 9-12 (VP 11)
Yearbook 10-12 (editor 12)
Quizbowl 9-12 (VP 12)
DECA (11) President
NHS (12, but thats the only grade offered)
Camp cabin leader
Intern at a chamber of commerce office
Those are my primary ones with the most involvement, but I have a few more
Awards: I got an award for winning an essay competition presented to me from the mayor of Detroit… how and where do I include this in my application?
Other: I don’t really want to share all that other info, but I am not a legacy anywhere, asian, and 6/10-7/10 on my rec essays, maybe a 7/10-8/10 on my common app essay
Odds are you arent getting in. Ur a great student, but rather generic. Not to mention Harvard rejects 94% of their applicants. I wouldn’t waste EDing on Harvard if I were you.
Yes, A=4, B=3, etc. Figure that out before you get a good answer here.
But as post #1 says, your ecs are pretty ordinary. Test score is on the low side. And I hate to say it with all my heart: you need to look way above average because you’re Asian.
Note that if you are rejected EA, that’s the end. More likely you would be deferred. That’s OK.
@WasatchWriter I haven’t sent SAT scores in, is it too late if I send them today or tomorrow for Harvard to get them for EA? Do I foreal have a shot at deferral?
What about my Nov. 7 subject tests?
I basically want to know if there is a high chance I will get flat-out DENIED… I can handle deferral, but if there is a big change I will get denied or if there is a big chance they will not get my test scores in time, then I won’t… but if there is a high chance for deferral, then I think I want to apply EA
Just apply. I’ve seen it here that a deferment from an ivy is a soft denial. You absolutely won’t get in if you don’t try. Write all your essays specifically for Harvard. Good luck.
P.S. You can write you Common App essay for H and edit it for the next colleges. There are unlimited edits.
Egad. I can’t make a prediction like that. Also, I know nothing about SAT score Like OspreyCV22 says, just apply. If you would rather attend another school, apply EA/ED there.
Please don’t tag people for questions like that. We’re not your friends. We’re just random people.
I would say go for it- just find a way to make yourself stand out in your applications. Be quirky! Ivies love quirky people. Just make sure you have what makes you different in your mind when you write your essays- Harvard looks for a lot more than just a good set of test scores.
Also, I’m pretty sure Harvard will take the November SAT for early action. You just have to declare/notify them that you are taking it then and that you plan to send it to them. I’m not completely sure though- you may want to call up the admissions office or dig around their website a little bit!
Harvard defers most of its applicants (I think around 70 something percent get deferred, 15-20 get accepted and the rest rejected).
I think you’ll get deferred. I think most people who are rejected either don’t have all the materials, or just completely did not try on their essays or something like that. All the people at my school who applied early (EC’s and stats wise, all the way from good to pretty bad) got deferred so I think you’ll get deferred as well.
Did you do the optional essay for Harvard?
For the essay award, just put it in the awards section.
With a class rank at 10% and a SAT of 2110, you’re probably not getting in through the early round. The pool is too competitive.
Nonetheless, if you decide to apply early or not, it’s still a lottery. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you’ll be a member of Harvard’s Class of 2020!
you have to go for it. Obviously there is a very high chance of denial. Much higher chance of getting flat out denied than even deferred. Even for the most qualified of applicants. but if everybody thought like that, nobody would apply.
