Early Action: Will it hurt my chances at other schools?

I have been pondering this question for quite a while. If one were to apply to a school Early Action, would this hurt their chances at being accepted to a different school regular decision.

I am in a bit of a dilemma since my first choice school has no early decision/action program. Another school that I am interested in does however have an early action offering. I want to apply to this school because I am quite stressed over the college app process and would like to apply to at least one school through early action.

The only reason I ask is that one of my friends told me that her interviewer from Yale asked her if she had applied to any schools early. I really don't want my first choice college to frown upon my decision to apply early action to another school.

Sorry if this is incoherent. I don't really know how to articulate what I am trying to say and I'm tired. HAHA. Thanks for your help.

You're wondering if your 1st choice school (and maybe others) might penalize you for not choosing them for EA. Well obviously you can plainly tell your 1st choice school that your EA to the other school was a good 2nd alternative, but you can emphasize in unequivocal terms that you view them as your 1st choice.

That should take care of that. Since they don't offer any early stuff, I'd gather a goodly no. of their applicants DO apply early at other schools.

With other schools you apply RD, I suppose a school who is really fishing for mutually interested students might consider it -- maybe even unconciously.

But then, that's only if you're asked about Early app by an interviewer. I NEVER ask the students I meet (I'm an interviewer with one of the HYP colleges).

And if you answer affirmatively. I hope you don't get asked. Good luck w/your plans.
