Early Action!

One of the posts on the UNC site said around 500/3900 freshman indicated they wanted to pursue global studies.

Is it harder OOS to get into UVA than UNC?

Also i love this camaraderie! ¦]

It’s harder to get into UNC out of state.

Let us band together for the next couple days.

As we have for the last ten.

Good luck to all of you- I remember two years ago being in this very same position. It was nerve-wracking. My mom stayed up all night, because they told us decisions would be released by a specific date. When we had heard nothing the day before, we listened to the rumors that said “they will post at midnight.” She stayed up and checked e-mail every hour or so, got no sleep and continued to check every hour or so until about 3:00, then every few minutes the next day. Finally, at exactly 5:00 the words “Your decision is available” came up. Then we followed the instructions to log in for the decision, and it took forever for it to load! The letter came a couple of days later. Last years group did hear by letter before the e-mails came out and the email notifications was a few days before the given date however. But don’t listen to the rumors that decisions will come by e-mail at midnight, don’t stay up all night waiting, or wait by the mailbox for the letter, or stay home from school to check your email every few minutes (yes, some in my class did that). A few years ago they used to send out “hopeful” letters, letting students know that there credentials looked and they would likely be admitted. They stopped that because it was causing too much stress. So anyone who tells you they got a “hopeful” e-mail or letter (unless they are an athlete or Morehead scholar) is likely just leading you on. UNC is a great school and I wish all of you luck. But the fact is, the university will let you know when they are ready- and the only thing for sure is that you will receive a letter or e-mail by the date that they gave you.

Only 12 more days until the 30th!

Aye aye, I’d like to join the crew for the home stretch of the decision wait. I’ve been lurking and I love the brotherhood and sisterhood in here lol.

I have a 2280 SAT (800 CR, 730 M, 750 W), an 800 US History SAT II, a 740 Literature SAT II. I have 7 AP’s, and got 5’s on all of the exams I took last year (US History, Biology, and English Language). My weighted GPA, at 4.077, is pretty weak, and my unweighted GPA is 3.72, but I’m hoping that my SAT and AP scores will compensate for that. I wrote essays that I think are pretty good, I got very good recs, and my EC’s are pretty strong, including being VP of my class, President of Latin Club, and a summer working as a volunteer camp counselor at a summer camp for disadvantaged kids in my city. I also work as a clerk at a law firm. Unfortunately, I am no athlete and only played a sport my freshman year (I fenced).

I got deferred from Princeton (I was expecting rejection because of my weak GPA, so I was somewhat pleasantly surprised), and deferred from Michigan (which made me pretty upset because I expected to get in, and statistically inferior candidates from my school were accepted). I was accepted to Rutgers Honors (I live in NJ). Having gone over last year’s acceptance/rejection/deferral thread for UNC, I am pretty certain that I’m looking at being rejected. Regardless, I’ll hang tight with y’all. Best of luck to everybody in here.

Its harder to get in to UNC OOS though UVA is arguably a stronger school. Has to do w sheer volume of in state apps and the way the different legislatures have mandated in state percentages must go. North Carolina retains more students in state than any other state (not UNC solely but the state in general).

Wild. But ya have been stalking my carolina page… Doesn’t help that everyone wears tarheel gear. Nice to meet you all btw. I am a huge college gal and it’s nice to be with an understanding community!

Does anyone know what UNC thinks of ib? I’ve only taken one ap class in high school but it’s because of IB. I’ve taken 11 IB classes I think.

They know about IB and the difficulty, don’t worry.

Okay! Ahhh the wait is killing me!

My UNC page doesn’t let me open anything! I can’t search for classes, or any of that… Uh oh lol

Eh, I can’t search anything. Online updates over the weekend aren’t happening. Our best hope is for mail today.

Was anyone able to search classes a month ago?

I don’t know I remember logging on likes month or so ago and my page was different. It had more options or something but I haven’t noticed a change since then

I could search for classes about a week or so ago…"

Apparently some scholarship folks have gotten an email nod but looking at the blog, it says notifications will happen by the 31st. Why did we think the 20th (and hope for the 18th)?

That’s when they were sent last year, and many other schools, such as UVa, sent theirs several weeks early as well.

Also is it absolutely mindnumbing how it could take so much longer for UNC considering their applications were due nearly 3 weeks earlier than every other school.
