Woohoo!

So I totally was not expecting this, but somebody made a post on Facebook so I went to go check and I got accepted! My first acceptance. Four days early - I'm not sure if decisions for all October 15 applicants are up.

I got accepted too lol. I;m so happy the decisons came up early lol.

I’m in, too :).

Now… for Chapel Hill…

^Same here, doubt i’ll get in lol.

Yeah, I’m right on the fence for Chapel Hill. Being average on all their stats sucks.

I got deferred which is interesting because it was supposed to be a low match. My question is, if they deferred you, does that mean you were only deferred from your first choice. I could understand not getting into engineering but I should have at least gotten into the FYC. Was I basically deferred from Engineering and then come final review time they will look at my second choice if they decide to not let me in then? An help would be appreciated.

edit: Also if it helps to give some measure of how smart I am, I got into Purdue Engineering as an OOS student and I am instate for NC State.

Yeah Chapel Hill will no doubt be tougher…

I really don’t know how NCSU admissions works. I was under the impression they admitted you to the university as a whole, but in the past it has been generally more difficult to get into engineering than say, textiles.

I’ll hazard a guess and assume that you didn’t get in because NCSU claims to look at more than just numbers. I hope you have good extra curricular activities, leadership, and a striking essay.

And I really hope you came across less condescending to them as you did to us. For your own sake.

One, NC State for the most part doesn’t look at more than numbers. They have way too many applicants to care about that and it just doesn’t happen even though colleges make applicants feel better by saying they do. Also if State did look at more than numbers I would have a better shot than if it they didn’t so it’s not that. Two, I do not see how I came off as condescending. I was honest in my question and I think it’s fair to argue why I didn’t get in. Also If I was condescending, then I would have laughed at NC State from not taking me into Engineering. I didn’t do that and said it’s very possible that I wasn’t accepted engineering and asked a general question about how they defer students. More then likely I will just take my question to my counselor on Monday I have a feeling that she will be confused as well.

I understand your concern, but saying “how smart I am” is a lot more condescending than, for example, “my potential as a student.”. You were deferred from a highly competitive program, so I understand the frustration if you are as smart as you claim.

That’s how I word it. Wasn’t being condescins but I guess I can see where u come from. Also I wouldn’t say tha I’m frustrated as much as I’m confused. If I was to be honest I never wanted to go to state. It’s just confusing how i get into purdue eng. Oos but not state fyc instate. Which is why I asked the defer question.

accepted, college of engineering

If you never wanted to go to state then you really shouldn’t care whether you’re deferred. You are basically telling us that you just want to see as many acceptances as possible, regardless of whether you are interested in attending the school or not.

Yup - son was accepted to college of engineering

@VirginiaFan:

Regardless, congratulations on getting into Purdue. I’m sure wherever you go, you’ll be successful.

And congratulations to everyone else who was accepted!

edit: you know what my original response was condescending so I will be reasonable even though you just put words in mouth.

1) please do not put words in my mouth and tell me how I apply to colleges because I like getting an admissions packet. I applied to NC State because it is the best engineering school at an in-state price. Only reason. I live right next to it and hate the campus and am just tired of being around Raleigh. Need a taste of fresh air.

2) I don’t want anybody to think that I think NC State is a bad school. I do not think that at all and recognize that it is a good engineering school.

3) I am not angry or upset at getting deferred. I am merely confused. I somehow got accepted to Purdue Engineering (a consistently top 10 engineering school) but got deferred from both NC State Engineering (good school but is not Purdue engineering) and FYC when I live in NC. If it was the other way around I wouldn’t be as surprised. However does nobody else think that this is weird at all?

4) the whole purpose of my first response was to ask how NC State deferral works. Now if somebody will ask that question it would be great. If not then I will just go to my college counselor on monday who can tell me. All I’m asking is if I got deferred from engineering or if I got deferred from both engineering and FYC?

Hope this clears everything up.

@Virginiafan13:

I know an NCSU admissions rep personally, and I will ask her.

You don’t have to if you don’t want to but the input would be helpful. Thank you.

Congrats to your son Grxxx3. I didn’t even think to check until I saw your post and virginiafan’s post on the Purdue website. So I checked and son got in. I was just happily waiting until Tuesday. No e-mail letting us know they were early.

Virginiafan - can completely understand your decision to apply to - but not really wanting to attend - NCSU. And, yes, I do think it’s strange that you got accepted to Purdue and deferred at NCSU.

BerneseMtnDog - congrats to your son!
