Early Action

ill be applying to UNC early action
out of state- white, lower middle class

SAT- 1520 out of 16, 2200 out of 24
ACT- 33
GPA- 3.5
AP- Biology and Government

about 15 extracurricular clubs and stuff (dont feel like listing them all) including 4 years of football

what are my chances

The fact that you are a guy will help you since UNC is 60/40 female/male.

jackson, nj

The out-of-state pool for UNC-CH is veryyy competitive, so you'll definitely need to keep that in mind. There are stories of kids who get into Cornell and UPenn but not Carolina OOS.

Your GPA will definitely hurt you a little, but your SAT scores are solid and if your ECs are good enough (it's nice that you're an athlete), you have a good chance.

If you didn't know already, UNC-CH has posted the essay questions for next Fall's applications--http://www.admissions.unc.edu/applying/essays.html

I wish we had that selection on last year's ! lol

LOL! UNC Chapel Hill requires students to write some of the most creative essays, which they can definitely use to tilt the dial in their favor...

jerseypete, my suggestion would be to really really really work on the essays more than anything else. I know a few good kids who were instate, that got rejected because of average/not so good essays.

Also, even if you are OOS, BE SURE to emphasize your interest in coming to UNC by either/and visiting (while making sure they KNOW you were here), or/and by writing to someone on the Adcom (ask ques. etc.). I will tell you, making these connections WILL help you make that last stretch, and WILL get you in OOS. Good Luck!
