Do some schools send out decisions in a rolling fashion (early in the process) when one applies EA?

Yes, but it depends on the school…off the top of my head, I’m thinking of UMich and Tulane but I’m sure there are more that are EA rolling…

U of Dallas says they’ll get you a response within 6 weeks of your app, whether it’s EA or regular decision.

University of Vermont rolls too.

RtoR, do you mean that even though the decision release date for EA at UVM is 12/16, you might receive a decision anytime before 12/16?

Rolling decisions and EA are different. EA acceptances are usually in December, by a certain deadline, eg. Dec. 15. But many schools notify students a few days ahead of their own deadlines, others stick by them.

There are schools like Michigan and Wisconsin that have Early Response programs (like EA, not binding) where if you apply by a specific date you are guaranteed a response by a date certain. Those schools do, however, consider applications received before that Early Response deadline on a rolling basis. Vermont had (do not know if it’s currently available) a program where if you applied with their “Priority Application” you were guaranteed a response within 3 weeks of your application being complete.

Northeastmom…yes, what runnersmom said…Vermont has a VIP application with a 21 day notification period.

Last year, though, Michigan’s Early Response took much longer than the year before. I think they were swamped with applications.

marite, I understand that. I am asking if some schools with EA, ED, and RD end up notifying students of admissions decsions much earlier than published dates for admission decisions for EA and ED (perhaps 2 weeks after a file is complete, acting really like a rolling school). BTW, I am EXCLUDING priority apps.

No, I don’t think so. Again, they may notify a week or two ahead of RD notification date (eg, some time in March as opposed to April 1). But they will not notify within two weeks of receiving a file just because it was sent early. I do not know of any EA school that notifies before December or an RD school that notifies before March, even though the due date might be as early as December 15 (as was the case of Stanford when S applied).

marite: Tulane is EA and has already notified some kids but not others…

Ithaca has rolling RD (or they did two years ago; my daughter applied RD and heard in November…much earlier than everyone else)…

Thanks, rodney. This is an interesting trend. It used to be that in October, some students received “likely” letters. Most, but by no means all, who did were athletes. But it sounds as if some schools now send out actual acceptance letters ahead of formal notification period.

DD got her EA acceptance from Santa Clara University the week after Thanksgiving.

Michigan early response folks are already getting decisions right now, I think the first acceptances went out last Thursday.

It is my understanding that most EA schools have an early date that they BEGIN to notify EA applicants of their acceptances…and this continues until they are done notifying the EA applicants. Unless the application specifically says so (as in the case of some priority applications or other “express” applications), most do not notify students within a couple of weeks of their application receipts.

I know this is an ED school, but students who applied to Muhlenberg ED got in before Thanksgiving.

Also, Indiana- Bloomington and Pitt are just 2 of the rolling action schools that I could think of that give you a response pretty quickly.

Drexel has already sent out EA acceptances

tulane indiana wisconsin michigan

yabeyabe2, thanks. That is what I was wondering about.
