If one engages in an early decision plan of a college, can the student apply to another school through the early action route (not single-choice EA)?

I have read an early decision agreement, for instance, on Penn application, and it says that "A student may apply Early Decision to only one institution." However, it does not mention anything about the early action.

Any comment would be appreciated.

You can apply to one school ED and as many as you want EA (some exceptions such as certain Single-Choice EA programs like Yale). Realize though that if you get into both schools, you MUST attend the ED school.

Actually, I had the same question and I e-mailed Penn admissions. They said that they don't mind if you apply Early Action to other schools, but you must check with them first.

Some schools, even some that aren't Single Choice EA, require that yo don't apply ED to another school. I think that this is the case with Georgetown. However, other EA programs, like Villanova and UChicago, allow you to apply to ED programs. Basically, it varies by school.

Yeah, what others have said. mrchipmunk is right about Georgetown, though I don't know any others like that off the top of my head. There probably are some, though, as well as possibly ED schools that don't want you to make EA apps...so always be sure to check with each college.

These clear things up, bad1017, mrchipmunk90, and pinnipotto. Thank you very much!

You also can not apply early admissions elsewhere if you apply Early Decision to Brown. Always check directly with the school, however, as things do change from year to year.
