Early Decision 1 vs 2?

What is the difference besides ED1 and ED2 besides the application due dates?

Specifically, i have been looking at carnegie mellon, i see there are schools (musics and such) that you cannot apply ED1 for and some schools you cannot apply ED2 for. Since i am probably applying for the school of computer science or something like that (that isnt restricted from neither ED1 nor ED2) would i be able to send my apps for the Dec 1 ED2 deadline instead of the Nov 1 ED1 deadline?

Thanks in advance

There is no difference. It’s just a way for the admissions to break up the load (so they won’t be flooded at once).

I know it’s been a year since the last post.

Can I apply to two different schools under ED1 and ED2? Assuming the school I applied to for ED1 rejected me.

I would apply ED1 because if you get rejected you could always apply ED to another school with a later deadline.

@Pacman You can only apply to one school ED. If you choose to apply to more than one school then they will give you the decision for only your first choice school. The decision for the other schools come later with the RD applications. If you apply ED and you get rejected for your first choice then that means you got rejected to all of the schools at CMU.
