Is it true that if I apply Early Decision or Early Action to a certain school, I will have a higher chance of being accepted?

My counselor at school actually told me that ED may even harm my chances as the pool of applicants in ED may have much higher statistics than I do. In fact, Collegeboard.org also states this possibility - Early Decision & Early Action

It varies by school However, statistically, ED tends to select a higher number of applicants than RD and there tends to not be a difference between EA and RD. However, the people who apply ED do tend to hav better stats, so yes you can consider it to be more competitive sometimes.

It depends on the school, if you apply to Emory ED it would probably increase your chances significantly over RD due to all the applicants they lose to top schools.

Whereas applying EA to Harvard probably wouldn’t increase your chances much if at all (unless athlete or legacy)
