@1NJParent Are you saying that they defer many in order to “convince” them to commit to an EDII round?
@ccdad99 They want applicants who they admit to show commitment. Those who apply EA are deemed insufficiently committed and will be offered a second chance…
There was an article in the WSJ recently that said Tulane reaches out to EA deferred applicants and encourages them to apply ED2. It’s a way for them to protect yield. WSJ was not very complimentary of that practice. Same article mentioned Lehigh and Colorado College reaching out to RD applicants and encouraging them to switch to ED2. I guess it would make some kids worry that they won’t get in RD, but switching to ED2 could get them a spot.
@1NJParent That may be so, but wanting applicants admitted to show commitment is a slightly different goal than passing Yale in the rankings. I do understand higher yield helps with that goal, too.
So, for all those deferred, how are you sending your first semester grades to Georgetown? Is this done through their application, or do we all contact our GC and ask them to send them…and if so, will they know HOW to send them since Georgetown isn’t on common app, and they presumably won’t be getting a request from GT like they did for the rec letters and school report?
@ccdad99 @intparent my guess is a teensy tiny number of EA deferred kids get in. Since EA is not binding they will be looking for those kids most likely to attend if offered. So if some poor kid on the deferred list (assuming identical stats to the rest) sent a deposit in the mail with a letter saying how much they want to go to U. Chicago maybe that kid gets picked? (increase yield) :))
@wisteria100 , my D had applied RD to Tulane at the beginning of November. She too received an email asking her to “consider” changing her application to ED2 - so it wasn’t just the deferred kids, more likely everyone who had an app in the system by then?
