From what some people have said in earlier posts, Admissions DOES take need into account during the Early Decision process. Is this true? I thought this was only the case for international and waitlist applicants.

Also, does the college offer the same scholarship awards for EDs as RDs? So if you applied ED, would you still get the same amount of scholarship money if you had waited and applied RD?

Thanks in advance!

Oberlin is not need-blind. We’re “need-sensitive,” which means that for most Early or Regular Decision applicants, need doesn’t have an impact on our decisions, but in a small number of cases it does. Need does play a much larger role for international applicants, and when we’re looking at students on our waitlist.

The good news is that, if we accept you, we will meet 100% of your demonstrated financial need.

We also offer the same merit-based scholarship awards to ED applicants that we offer to RD applicants. We don’t want to penalize you for applying early.

Alright. Thanks for the clarification!
