Williamso1- I would be willing to share my essay with you.

thank you carolineeleanor … and congrats for getting in :)

accepted! so excited…
everyone who got deferred, you are still a worthwhile human being, and you do get another shot
although that’s probably not at all comforting right now.

@carolineeleanor, would you mind sending me your essay, too? I got deferred :((

eljay93-sure

@carolineeleanor: Thank you so much

@carolineeleanor, would you mind sending me your essay? another deferred ed applicant here

@carolineeleanor-

Would you mind sharing your essay with me, too? My son was deferred and is trying to figure out where he fell short.

Are any of the ED admits here recruited athletes?

Did any of the ED admits here submit a music supplement?

Congratulations to you all; it’s quite an accomplishment to be admitted ED to Williams! My (deferred) son is a top-notch student (top 5% of class) at a very strong public suburban high school. He’s also an excellent musician (All-State caliber) in two areas, but that wasn’t enough to put him in the accepted pool. He’s such a good kid who is truly passionate about learning, so this is a big disappointment. With only 15-20 ED applicants likely to be admitted under RD, it doesn’t look promising. On to plan B, I guess.

Don’ give up hope if you/your child has been deferred. Our son, who is a junior at Williams, was initially deferred. He was accepted RD. He did submit a letter reiterating his interest, talked to the Music Dept for advice (he did submit a music supplement with his ED ap) and his guidance counselor called his admissions officer. Don’t know if these things played a role in his eventual acceptance, but that’s what we did.

D, who was accepted, submitted a music supplement. She participated in All-State. She is thrilled.

Thank you so much for sharing your son’s story; I really appreciate it and will pass the advice on to my son.

Did your son talk to the Music Department Chair? My son met and subsequently has been in touch with a number of the Music faculty. Did your son initiate the post-ED decision contact or did the Music Department contact him?

Thanks again.

@ Kidstart-

Congratulations to your daughter!

Hey guys. I had kind of a weird question. How are we supposed to mail the 200$ to the Admission Office? Should we use snail mail, or in some other way? I ask because the postal service around here isn’t exactly trustworthy.

I would either FedEx or have it as certified mail-- if certified, it will have a completely different path (there is a chain of custody and things) and will get there --if you want extra protection you can have Williams sign a card with the Postal Service sends back to you.

On a different path-- I was taken by the comments by Dean Nesbitt about the ED class having the best academic profile the College has seen in years. I suppose the Number 1 ranking will do that for you-- but I also think that a lot of kids who could and in other years would have gone to the Ivies are going the academic LAC route instead. No sure why, but my D who goes to a prep school sees it in her class-- she originally, herself, thought Ivy, but after visiting Williams and speaking with the students she though that the quality of education, life and athletics would be far better at Williams.
She also liked that 50% of the students play some sort of variety/jv sport and 30% more play intercollegiate club sports-- so as an athlete she wouldn’t be ghettoized as a dumb jock who got in bc she is good at sports–but seen as a scholar-athlete–like almost all the rest of the class.

Yay Williams!

Thanks etondad. I will go to the post office on Monday and sort this out.

And by the way, congrats on your daughter!

@ LuisaMaria:

My daughter also requested and was given a trial music lesson by a member of the music faculty. I think that helped a lot. Your son should request the same. Good luck to him and thanks for your good wishes.

So I put on a Williams sweatshirt (bought when she visited but never put on in case of bad juju) to go to the grocery store this morning. I just got out of the car when someone shouts out “Hey, Williams” I explained that my D just got her ED. He was class of 82 and went on and on about how great a four years he had and how lucky she should be–and congrats for getting in.
Funny bc my S is at Harvard and when I wear my Harvard sweatshirt (we live around Boston) no one EVER stops me-- but it took just two minutes with the Williams purple. I am so excited for her. --and I had heard about alumni loyalty–this episode kinda confirms it!

@carolineeleanor, would you mind sending me your essay? My S deferred too .
