Hey guys, I'm wondering which schools I should apply to for Early Decision. I'm currently caught in between Duke (I LOVE THE CAMPUS AND THEIR BIO PROGRAM!), Caltech (it's close to home and very science oriented), or UPenn's Nursing School (it could get me a job right out of college). I know these schools are really competitive, but I think they're reasonable for my abilities (UPenn and Caltech are a moderate stretch). I recently got an email from Caltech's head coach for waterpolo, discussing the potential for student athletes (but I don't have an incredible record in waterpolo and all they wanted was a rough transcript). I'M SO INDECISIVE! Help please? =[

ED is no joke as it’s binding. Are each financially viable for you?

You said you love Duke, so Duke. The other too you mentioned because they’re practical, not because you love them.

Hard to see someone with your options settling for nursing at this stage.

Nursing is a noble profession. Why the “settling” comment?

I would tell my kids that if they can’t name an absolute favorite then they shouldn’t apply ED.

@T26E4: Yes, my parents would pay my way through college if I got into any of those or my other privates.

@sherpa: What’s so bad about nursing? I’m seriously considering it since it’s really involved in healthcare and would probably help me with internships right after or even before graduation.

Save ED for the kids who are absolutely gushing about their school of choice and keep your indecisiveness to the RD round, where you’ll get to choose from among your options.

Also, I’m not sure what Redroses meant exactly, but I got the vibe “settling” was not a jab at nursing as a profession but rather to point out that nursing is a pre-professional track, which are generally intended for those sure of their future careers. For someone considering such vastly different college options, with vastly different curricula, that are likely to set the OP on different career paths, it doesn’t seem wise to settle for anything–whether that’s an ED college or a future career–at this point.
