Early Decision deadline issue question

I know that the deadline for most schools the deadline is November 1st (for ED/EA) but if I don't want to have a binding contract and would rather do regular decision, is it possible that I still apply before November 1st but I just choose to do regular decision. Or do you have to do ED if you apply before the November 1st deadline?

sure, you can submit a regular decision application any time now, even if it’s before the ED or EA deadline for the school. If you submit early and later have additional infothat you want the school to consider (like semester grades or new awards), you can follow up by sending that later by snail mail.

There’s no advantage to sending an RD application in so early. Use the time to edit your essays. Have a look at them once a week; you’ll likely see an improvement every time!

im with vossron on the fact that the improvement is always there when you revise em, but iv actually read this on some college’s website that applying earlier in the process as an RD candidate has its advantages, cuz (a) u get to them when they’re not swamped with applications and hence have more energies to devote to ur app and (b) that it in some ways helps with financial aid (if u need it), for them to know that you had it all worked out so early, sort of tells them ur seriously interested and had it all done way ahead of time, rather than just apply with a last minute thing.

my advice is to send it off when u think its ready… u can always send any updates or additionals till and even after the deadline…
