Early Decision I

Good luck!! Let us know when you get in.
Anyone here apply for the Johnson?

This is SO late ((I just found this thread)) but I’m class of 2015!! Found out last Saturday  Congrats everyone!!

And to dancepsychlove I actually only sent them one SAT II, and it was a 700. When I asked they said that the scores are more for placement, so don’t stress!!! You’re going to be absolutely fine  I have a friend currently attending and he had a 530 and a 600 and got in ED II. The early decision really helps I think. Good luck!!!

Woot, even more CCers with W&L 2015 luck! Congratulations!
That’s comforting to know. The admissions guy told me not to retake the SAT IIs
and that my application is being reviewed right now. AHHH!!

When I called back in November the guy was really discouraging about my scores and told me I should switch to ED II, and I didn’t and was FINE. Don’t worry about it, as long as your application package is strong (which I’m sure it is) the SAT IIs won’t hurt you.

“I think it is good that W&L does not only rely on SAT I; SAT IIs show more about your understanding of a specific subject of your choice aside from grades with out the subjectivity (in some cases) of grades.”

I am a big champion of SAT IIs for that very reason.

W&L wanted five SAT IIs for my home-schooled son, but we talked them down to three. Five is de trop! He did very well on the three he took, so it should not be a huge issue. For some schools, it seems, home schoolers have to prove that they’re not some sort of cross between the Clampetts and the Unabomber. :(

Wow, two was painful enough! I can’t imagine what taking five would be like. I’ve come to peace with myself about my scores
whatever happens in admissions, happens. I do like the SAT IIs and the concept itself, although I wish the writing SAT II still existed

I’m not with you guys. I despised the SAT IIs, and think that on some subjects they are still a poor reflection of how knowledgeable you are, and is a big reason why colleges still don’t really use them for admission and still rely primarily on grades. Especially on Math II, the question were not straightforward, and many of them were questions very similar to those on the SAT I in terms of how you apply knowledge to answer a question. Also, people only take the SAT IIs once or maybe even twice, and anybody can have a bad test day. Finally, the SAT IIs are still a standardized test, and are a huge disadvantage for those who are slow test takers. Grades are still the most accurate way of determining a student’s knowledge, and those who say that grades are inflated at other schools are over-exaggerating and are just insecure about their own gpa. that being said, SAT IIs are not important, and even for placement colleges put more emphasis on AP exams. you’ll be fine dancer.

Does anyone know when EDII comes out? If I remember correctly, it said around the end of January/Early February? I’ll go check that now.

Do they send decisions out earlier than the projected date? Sorry I’m just so antsy!!!

UgaDawgs, for ED I the university listed a date by which applicants will receive their decisions in the mail. Because I live so far from Virginia (I live in Louisiana), I got mine in the mail about 3 or 4 days after they were mailed. But since you seem to live in Georgia, I am sure that you will receive yours sooner.

Don’t they send out results by E-mail? I applied ED2 and I am an international applicant, that takes me even much time to reciecve the mail

Dancepsychlove–You asked about Johnson Scholars. I too wanted to know about that. Anyone know anyone who has won this scholarship? How did their stats differ from accepted applicants who weren’t offered scholarship? Seems like a large % of each incoming class gets the Johnson Scholar award–there are nearly 100 each year, right?

Only 44 students receive the Johnson Scholarship per class.

From my understanding the Johnson’s starts are higher than the average accepted student, but in order to get the Johnson it takes more than just stats; it is a leadership scholarship, therefore I can only assume they want to select semifinalist who typify leadership.

Last year this kid from my school had over a 1500 and about a 98/100 gpa; he was also the vp of executive board, president of the integrity board and this list went on; he was selected a semifinalist (he went to lex and did all of the Interviews and activities and stuff) but did not get the scholarship. I have no idea what will happen this year with the Johnson Scholarships, but that’s just the limited insight I have; it is definitely competitive, but 10% of the incoming class gets the scholarship every year. Good Luck!!

Maybe this will help:
[Time to stalk the mailman! W&L Admissions](http://wluadmissions.com/2011/01/21/time-to-stalk-the-mailman/)

I applied for the Johnson just to apply
I’m not getting it with a 31/2100/no rank, although I refuse to lose hope for general acceptance (no pun intended. Ok you probably didn’t get that
sorry
). It seems to be very numbers based, and then picking a few among the perfect numbers. Nothing wrong with that. I just don’t have the numbers. BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE! :D

SO close to the EDII notification date!!

Hopefully I’ll be joining y’all next year as a part of the Class of 2015!

Cool! Good luck! Let us know once you get accepted
Only 67 days left until I find out
wooo

I’m in! Washington and Lee Class of 2015!

I just saw this and thought I would say that I am also a member of the class of 2015!!! Congrats to everyone who has heard and I can’t wait to meet you in the fall.

p.s. any other swimmers?

kcdolivia -

I’ve swam my whole life, but I don’t plan on continuing at W&L. One of my friends from my high school went last year for swimming and she loves it! And one of my friends this year is considering swimming.
