Early Decision or Regular?

I am wondering whether to apply Early or Regular to Dartmouth based on my test scores and GPA. I know my SAT subject tests scores are low, but will they really get me denied?

ACT: 33
English: 35
Math: 32
Reading: 32
Science: 31

SAT subject tests
Math II: 670
US History: 690

GPA (unweighted): 3.96
I have taken all the hardest, accelerated, honors, AP classes possible.
Should I apply Early and increase my chance of admission or regular to play it safe?

that decision should be made based almost solely on your interest.

Dartmouth is my first choice for college. Based on that, what would increase my chances–early of regular?

Your GPA isn’t likely to improve much so if you aren’t retaking the tests all things equal ED is probably slightly easier.

thats my question. should i apply early decision with the lower SAT subject tests or apply regular and try to get them higher, but make it possibly harder to get in to dartmouth?

I really am curious about this. Someone please help me out and tell me what you think.

I suggest you look at the threads from last year and see who got in ED and who was deferred or denied outright.

do you think you give me a link for one of those? i was looking for those but couldn’t find any.

Apply ED. If you don’t get accepted early, I think you at least have a good chance of being deferred, in which case you could improve your test scores and send them in for when they look at your application for the second time.

So I am allowed to send in additional test scores (assuming I sent in all the test scores necessary) after I apply ED?

You might want to double-check b/c I’m not 100% positive, but I’m fairly certain that if you are deferred, you can re-take the SAT and send in your scores by a certain date. Then, they’ll add your scores to your file. I’m pretty sure that you’ll also have to send in a general update about your grades as well. They’ll look at those updates when they re-evaluate your application with all of the regular decision applicants.

Alright thanks a lot for the help! I hope you’re right.

Just look at the decision thread at the top of the page, started by newbyreborn several years ago. If you start at the beginning, you will see people posting their ED results. You can tell because they are the ones posted in December. Obviously, kids who post to CC are a subset of those who apply, and of course the info is self-reported and not verified, but it will give you some idea.
