Early Decision Round 2

Same thing. I applied early to Brown and got deferred. I really like Middlebury, too. I wish dreams come ture.

two days. God bless me!!~ wish me luck

I am so nervous. I cant even explain how badly I want to go to Midd.
Good luck to all my fellow EDII applicants.
If it’s meant to be-it will be.

Thanks desgraf! You too =)
Yeah, I was so busy this week that I didn’t really have time to even think about tomorrow. However, my nerves are starting to set in. I am totally in agreement- if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. It will be a bummer if we don’t get in or get deferred, but things happen for the best, so that’s just my outlook.
Just remember, you’re the same person before and after you click the decision button.

Good Luck to all you kids. It was around one year ago that my S got his acceptance, and we just dropped him off at Middlebury for his Feb orientation. It is a very special place and the amount of caring, planning and overall effort that Middlebury puts forth is impressive. I have a good basis of comparison as a father with 2 other kids who have finished college within the last 10 years.

Good luck everyone!!~

Just a few more hours.

Yay, accepted! I guess it was meant to be. Praise the Lord!!!
I wish the best of luck for you all =)

congratulations faith2be! if you don’t mind me asking, what are your stats? I am currently a junior, but i’m strongly considering Middlebury as my first choice

Congratulations!! I got in ED1…looking forward to meeting everyone in September!!

Accepted!!!

how many candidates deferred this year??

OldbatsieDoc - everytime I read your first post in this thread (“No, you’ll be the only one this year” in answer to the “Anyone else here applying ED 2?”) I laugh out loud and it totally puts the carnival atmosphere of this process in perspective for me. So - Thank You!

Thanks, DQ…couldn’t resist that opening…

Also, I wish I knew about this site but definitely look at the students review of Middlebury College on students review (no space between students and review) .com
(CC doesn’t let me post links)

-Of course, you’ll have snobby people everywhere, but the comments seem more prevalent about Midd then other schools on the website. Hopefully I’ll have a better experience,

Most importantly, don’t take a tour of Midd, immerse yourself with the students and you’ll definitely get a different but real perspective of the environment. I wish I did that.

@faith2be - I went to the review website… and was shocked at some of the completely cruel reviews e.g. Econ dep SUCKS Balls, arrogant rich wasp, and ignorant faculty…

Now I’m kinda depressed that I chose MIDD and rejected all my other choices.

That website is TOTALLY bogus. Up until a couple of years ago, anyone could post a review. You didn’t need to have any proof that you actually attended the school. I read several terrible reviews of a number of NESCAC colleges (including Middlebury) by the same person who couldn’t possibly have attended all of those schools. Basically when people were rejected, they’d go to st u dent s re v iew and diss on the school. After many complaints, the website instituted a check to increase the likelihood that reviewers actually attended the school, but it’s still not foolproof.

How could so many people (including most current students and alums I know) love Middlebury so much if it was such a terrible place? Also, Midd has one of the highest alumni giving rates in the country. Why do you think that is? Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.

@farkula, yeah it was depressing to read it. However, college is what you make it out to be. So hopefully we can enjoy our time there!! =) Can’t wait to meet you!

That is true @Arcadia, but to be honest, those reviews don’t seem like they were made up.
Also, @Arcadia, on a side note, I’ve seen that you have commented on multiple (if not all) threads regarding Middlebury College. You seem to really reallly like Midd (no objections to that)
You are entitled to your opinion, but I think it is of the best benefit of prospective students to give them the good AND the bad.
Your posts do seem very biased, (of course, most of what you portray is true) but you also have to acknowledge that Midd is not perfect for everyone. (for example, you said that middlebury is of more prestige than some ivies which is not true. I’m going to midd, and I am confident to tell the reality. who cares, if they like midd, they’ll go, not for the prestige but for the excellent academics and experiences)

I would appreciate that you do not call the website “bogs” and instead offer your opinion. You are doing harm to portray Middlebury College as a utopia with no flaws. We don’t want people to go and transfer because it is not their fit. You might love it, but others may hate it.

Thank you for understanding. I do not mean to attack you, but let’s be serious, you can’t just say Midd is the best out of all colleges (you may think it, but how would you feel if you were a prospective student and you’re given the wrong impression and then end up feeling unhappy, cheated, and wanting to transfer?) I appreciate your love for Midd, but please, don’t strike down others’ opinions.

Whoa! Faith2be, you couldn’t be further off the mark with your assessment of Arcadia. When I read your and Farkula’s comments in this thread, I was tempted to respond, but waited because I had seen Arcadia’s replies to such comments in the past. I knew he would come forward and correct your misunderstanding. Arcadia, is very even handed within this thread. Of course he loves Middlebury. Most graduates do. But he always backs his statements up with facts. I’m not sure where you’re from, but in the US one could certainly make the claim that Middlebury is as prestigious as , or even more prestigious than Cornell. I attended both schools and can speak from experience. Prestige is a funny thing. It’s entirely subjective. I always look to the world of bicycles as a perfect example. To the average person, a Gary Fisher, or Stumpjumper is a very prestigious bike. However, to those in the know, they’re not particularly special. To those same people, the best bikes are from companies you’ve never heard of (moots, serotta, seven). The world of education is similar when you start talking to those doing the hiring after graduation or with those on grad school admissions. In that world, NESCAC schools are viewed as among the best. While HYP will always hold some strong cachet, the NESCACs are viewed as providing some of the best undergrad educations available. No one claims that Middlebury (or any school) is perfect for everyone. Arcadia was responding to some ill-founded concerns posted here (that is, after all, the purpose of this site). You should be thanking him rather than admonishing him.
