Early Decision

At my school there has been an increasing trend to apply early...this year 60% of the class is applying early...up from 40% last year...is this a national trend?
My other question is about ed 1 vs ed 2...is there a difference in the acceptance rate of both of the eds...is the applicant pool higher in ed 2...is ed 2 viewed by colleges as the kids who apply after being defered or rejected by the ed 1 school and so the advantage no longer stands....schools i am specifically interested about ed 1 vs ed 2 are tufts, wesleyan and vassar

im pretty sure that its the same advantage. i mean, if you apply ed2, they have you looked in, so why do they care if its your first choice or not? you've obviously said youd forget all other schools for this one by applying ed2...
