Hello,
I need some clarification in terms of Early Decision.
Here is what I have been told:
1. Numbers indicate it is easier to get into schools ED
2. Numbers lie, most of the people admitted ED are athletes or legacies
3. Showing you are committed to the school by applying ED gives you a boost
4. They will give you less financial aid if you are ED
I am know quite confused, is it a good idea or not to apply to your dream school? Will it help or harm you?
Also, if you can't pay and you were accepted ED can you back out?
Thanks

If this really is your dream school, in that you will absolutely go to this school if you can get in, yes apply ED. Its your best shot at getting in.

If the school fails to meet need or the package contains excessive non-gift aid, you can appeal to them on that basis. Most selective schools generally do well with their aid packages.
Whats the school ?

Thanks for the help!
I am a junior, but I will most likely be applying to Dartmouth ED

According to the Dartmouth CDS you can expect on average to have 100% of your need met with 86% gift money. This school is very good a providing aid.

Another issue for those applying for aid ED, is that you can’t wait until all the offers are in and compare them. You will have only the one school’s offer to consider.
