I’m debating whether or not to apply early decision. BU is my top school, but at the same time I don’t want to get in and then have an awful financial package as I’ve heard of that happening. Any suggestions?

Then don’t apply ED. Contrary to popular belief, applying regular decision is not a bad thing. It lets you compare financial aid offers and see what all your options are.

I applied ED and I regret it. Definitely wait, especially if you are a good applicant and somewhat affluent.

I applied ED and didn’t get good fin aid. Apply EA to as many schools that you like as possible and hold off on ED for BU. It’s a very very pricey school and just being in the city and being a student is very expensive. I don’t regret that was I was accepted and binded to BU because I love it here but I do regret that my parents are paying more per year just because I applied early.

timesnewroman, why do you regret applying ED? Financial reasons or do you dislike the school?

sorry about the late reply… but mostly financial. I received a scoff-worthy award package. I don’t think ED will harm you’re need-based aid, but it will CERTAINLY harm your merit based. (also, even BU’s “merit” based awards are partly based on family income. Just an FYI)
