So I applied early decision to George Washington, but I applied without fully understanding the rules of ED. I heard you could decline the acceptance if the financial aid is not sufficient, but do I need to do that before i receive all other offers from other schools? I am worried because the school is pretty expensive.
You can wait until you see the package. You can sit with your parents and run the net price calculator. This way you will have some idea as to whether or not it will be affordable.
Make sure that you have applied to some affordable options.
You should have received a financial aid offer WITH your ED acceptance. Did you receive it?
You should also have been given a deadline by which you either accept or decline your ED admission offer. What is that date?
You do NOT wait until you get all of your other financial aid offers and acceptances. The point of an ED application is that you will accept it when offered IF the financial aid is OK. If not, you decline…within the timeline provided by the school for this ED acceptance.
@sybbie719 in reading other posts…it looks like this poster did apply ED2…since he didn’t send his application until Christmas…and the counselor part wasn’t completed until January.
To @tunnitk GW is VERY expensive. Did you run the net price calculator?
Thank you for the reply! I did run it and it said that the cost would come down to around 20k if I was able to receive financial aid (I hope I do!). So I guess if I were to be accepted, then I would receive a deadline to accept the offer? So I wouldn’t be able to wait it out and see for other offers from other colleges from what I’m understanding?
Also, how long does it take for documents to be typically sent and processed? I was told my agreement form was sent on the 5th of the month, but the college has still not received it. I’m a little worried because the decisions are supposed to come out mid-Feb…
No, you won’t be able to wait for other schools. ED is an honor bound system that in exchange for an early decision, if accepted you will attend. Yes you have a short window to accept your offer. One of the challenges is that you may turn down your ED offer due to finances only to find out if was your best offer. If this happens you can’t go back to your ED school and say you changed your mind
If comparing financial aid packages is important to you then I recommend that you change your application to RD
Hello! Thanks for the reply. I meant the Early decision agreement form. I gave it to my counselor on the 3rd (GWU said it was okay to turn it in after the app deadline) and I was told it was mailed on the 5th. But on GWU it says it still has not been received and it’s almost been a month…
