So here's the info on that. I've BSed my way to now. I've never studied, I've just slid through. I have a lot of natural intelligence. I have a lot of street smarts also. I'm amazed I've done this well so far with the little bit of work I've put in. But I've finally had a revelation. I'm going to actually study from here on out. Expect Straight A's from here on out.

Extra Curricular Activities:
Marching Band 9th and 10th grade, Pit Section Leader 10th grade (I might continue this)
JV Soccer 10th (I am definately going to continue this)
JV Lacrosse 10th (Also going to continue this)
Sophmore Class Council
Student Venture Leadership 10th

I know my EC's are kind of weak, but Marching band takes up all the time of the first nine weeks, and I'm usually pretty busy the second nine weeks with soccer, and Lacrosse is going to fill up the third nine weeks.

I'll have 300 Community Service hours upon graduation (IB standard).

Every summer I have gone to a camp where I install roofs on the homes of impoverished people.

SAT Score: (this was taken when I was a freshman, don't have a hissy fit) 1330
I predict it would be in the 1450 range now, and I'm taking a Princeton Review Intensive prep course over the summer, so I plan to have that in the 1500's.

I really want to go to Dartmouth. But I'm a middle class white male. So that makes it a lot harder to get in. Do you think I'd cut it? The basic genre of school I'm looking for is an intensive liberal arts school in a rural north eastern setting.

Over the summer, I'll be visiting:
Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis, Clark, Emerson, Harvard, Holy Cross, Northeastern, Tufts, Amherst, U Mass, Smith, Williams, Dartmouth, Brown, Providence, University of Rhode Island, UCONN, Trintiy, Wesleyan, and Yale.

So far I've been scouted out by:
Cambridge, Armstrong Atlantic, Butler, Washington University, University of Virginia, Cornell.

So give me the dirty. What do you think?

Thanks A LOT.

-Ted

Oh, SAT split was M:710 V:620

I've done a lot of intensive english things since then... 9th grade, the focus was on reading a lot of literature, this year it has been comprehension and mechanics. So that's why I'd predicit it to be so much higher now.

should help you out if you are good in english. I am in that same situation Great verbal (750) good math (650). Hoping I can go higher in the "new" SATs. My ex-girlfriend is going to Dartmouth, HEAVY drinking school :).

Your stats will be good IF you follow your plans. One thing to note- Smith is a women's college. :)

Haha, thanks for that.

Oh, and I'm planning on Majoring in Psych, and minoring in Philosophy.

Wouldn't mind some more input. I haven't bumped this yet, and my friend is getting a lot more feedback than I am :).

I think that it is good that you are taking the college search seriously, but you should probably calm down slightly because you aren't a junior yet. As for the schools, your list is pretty hefty, with the exception of a few schools. You need to go to your guidance counselor and narrow down the schools that are reaches, 50/50's, and foundations. If you had to narrow down your list to 10, which schools would they be?

Well the reason I am asking now is because I'm going to a camp for two weeks in Boston, where I will take the Princeton Review's Sat prep course, and visit colleges in the afternoons. I couldn't possibly rank those. Dartmouth is the only one I know a lot about. I have to visit this summer, because next summer I'm busy with a load of senior IB reading, and my etended essay for IB.

I've played the bass guitar for several years and I really wouldn't mind playing bass for Dartmouth's Barbary Coast Jazz band... ;)

So would it be a good thing for me to stay in band in a leadership position? I mean it takes up a crap load of time, and it gets pretty annoying. But if it would help me I'm willing to stay.

Any input on which northeastern schools have very strong psychology/philosophy/social studies departments?

Thanks again for the help :).

-Ted

Then, because you play the guitar, you need to market yourself for Darthmouth. If you are really great at playing the bass guitar, you are a "targeted" applicant. Send in tapes of yourself playing the guitar. However, you have to be really good because those applicants who generally send in tapes are. Don't send it in if you are a beginner, or aren't that skilled. If they accept you because of your guitar playing skills, they will expect you to be in their band or something.

Yeah, I'm very good. I've been playing musical instruments since third grade, and bass comes very naturally to me. I'll definatley try to get some videos of me playing in school bands/church bands/my own bands...

What if I were to say... become "dual targeted". Like lets say I got the lacrosse coach to want me, and the jazz director to want me? Would that help my chances even more?

Ummm... I would think so. If the lacrosse coach wanted you, and the jazz director wanted you, the admissions officers would probably think twice before not admitting you.
