Hey Everyone,

I'm an incoming freshmen at Duke looking to eventually pursue business, specifically in the realm of management consulting and hedge fund management. I realize it's a bit (read: very) early for me to even be thinking of the whole MBA process, but I would like to at least aware myself of what it takes to get into one of the top grad schools.

From what I've read here, it appears the Duke name will put me in contention for the top firms and schools. I am, however, a bit dubious of my intended areas of study...I really love English and foresee that becoming my major, which I'd pair with a certificate in Markets and Management, another interest of mine. I've also been contemplating everything from a Finance to a Psych to a Comp Sci minor. Do you think some variation of these would put me at any sort of advantage/disadvantage in pursuing a business realm job or MBA? The consensus appears to be "do what you love, and do it well," but it's hard for me to grapple with the whole passion versus practicality debate, especially when it seems all of my like-minded peers are headed into Econ.

Moreover, what sorts of things would be good to do as resume builders? I recognize that there is no single path down which everyone must go, but I'm essentially lost in the woods haha.

Thanks so much!
