How long do coaches normally take to tell recruits how their early read in admission went?

Very quickly. The coaches, however, may or may not want it done quickly. If the athlete is on the top of the coach’s list, the coach wants answers from admissions fast. But, if the athlete is not at the top, a coach may want to stall while romancing a better athlete.

At one school, S got a pre-read during the OV - basically it was on the spot and done in about five minutes.

As an athlete, you can press the coach for a quicker answer.

Coaches have asked my son (a rower) for transcripts a while ago, but also said the pre-read will happen late July. It may be sport specific.

I agree with stemit. One coach gave info to admissions while my D was on the tour-not an overnight. Others took 3-6 weeks. Some called. Some emailed. One in particular never got back to us. My D emailed her and it ended up that the pre-read was a no go. Interestingly, this coach left the school a month later. If you don’ t hear in a month, I would email the coaches. These schools were all competitive D-3.
