DD, I have a very strong appreciation for what your life's occupation involves. When KP10 decided to go into this, I took a deep breath and thought, OMG this is as stressful as healthcare when it comes to safety, lives at stake and paying attention to many details all at the same time. And then with gaps of the mundane which can lull you into a sense that everything is fine before you know what hits the fan.

Your story above reminds me of when there is an emergency with one patient on the unit. The whole focus can turn to that patient that other patients may suffer adverse affects while managing that emergency. That is why in health care when there is a "code" a code team responds, the nurses on the floor then turn the care over to the code team in order that other patients may not suffer.

As I said, your job is a very stressful one. I think a person would have to be hopelessly in love with the sea and called to it to be a merchant marine.
