Earthquake

Did anyone just feel some odd vibrations at 2:00 PM today? I was playing computer games when all of a sudden... "whoa, I didn't know this game supported force feedback". And this just following the "hella 7.0" quake in NorCal yesterday. So this is what it's like to live in California, huh... wow.

yup... that was interesting

yea i felt one i was in 6th period at school today haha

i barely felt it though... it was only like a 5.2

yeah, but it was so weak by the time it got to westwood, I barely felt it. Man, its' been a while since I've felt a decent earthquake :(... what gives?

haha I was in 6th period too when it happened! Half of the class didn't notice at all. We were all signing yearbooks and talking..haha Good times! I'm gonna miss high school, yet I'm happy to be going to UCLA.

Hmm, our class didn't really notice until our teacher said "Did you guys just feel the earthquake?"

haha, someone in our class pointed out that the lights were shaking b/c they're suspended from the ceiling

Oh..so flopsy ...what game did you happen to play ;)

Civilization III

i was actually moving out from my dorm but i didnt feel it..

It was hella weak sauce do be quite frank. I'mnot from norcal but I like using hella also. lol.

That earthquake woke me up :P

I'mnot from norcal but I like using hella also.

gah!! "hella" is a very (dare I say... hella ;)) annoying word

I do, however, agree with the sentiment haha :) very pathetic earthquake (at least in the sense that we couldn't feel it much here in westwood)

my S will be attending school in Cali, I am a bit nervous about the earthquakes.

twistedsis, I wouldn't really be worrying about it. We're not usually over here shaking every few days like our Midwestern friends (I swear to god my friend in Iowa has tornado threats every other week). I've lived here for about six years, and all these earthquakes that are happening now are the first I've felt in five years and I'm in south Orange County.

Unless I'm totally wrong and there have been quakes in that time span, but I guess that goes to show that you can just miss them completely, especially if you're asleep. It's not like Northridge or anything.

the quake happened a couple of hours before I graduated. When all the seniors were seated during graduation, our principal first made comments about the 5.2 quake before anything else...He called it an omen that the "class of 2005 will rock the world..." ha, ha, ha.

I was driving while the quake happened so i didn't feel a thing.

I've lived in SoCal my entire life, and I get excited sometimes when i feel an earthquake because it's such a rare occasion...haha.

These were the first big quakes we've had in a while. Generally however we'll have at least one 5.0 quake every year. Actually since 1994 it has been very quite down in the LA area at least, which has been nice. The Northridge quake did pretty much burn me out on earthquakes.

i think many of us who live in los angeles city didnt feel it cuz we're somewhat far away from the epicenter, but my mom was working in orange county and she said it was shaking like crazy.

"He called it an omen that the "class of 2005 will rock the world..." ha, ha, ha. "

lol an6le

sorry if I sound silly - do Cali dorms have "earthquake drills"? or even fire drills for that matter - i dont recall anyone ever asking that question on any tours I went on.

i lived in sproul hall this past year. we had so many fire alarms that it we'd have more experience than from learning through a fire drill. (somewhat kidding).

according to the ucla housing website, it seems like the high rise residence halls have all been seismatically strengthened (in the late 1980's). but nothing is invincible of course.

anyway, the Resident Assistants (RA's) are supposedly trained for emegencies like these.

How did UCLA stand up in the 94 Northridge quake? As I remember the school did suffer some damage, but nothing anywhere near as extensive as say Cal State Northridge.
