I realize that this is a very broad, subjective question, but I figured it would not hurt to hear some opinions.
I think that the factor I am most (or at least very) concerned about is the atmosphere of a school–i.e. whether it’s cutthroat or collaborative. Thus, I was hoping to gain some insight as to which of the East Coast LACs have the most supportive and least every-man-for-himself cultures.
I realize that campus visits will probably also help me gain insight into these matters, so I was also wondering, what are good indicators of a school’s competitiveness to watch out for?
P.S. I’m also new to the college forums, so please just yell at me (nicely) if I should post in a different forum!
Least cut throat, most supportive? Haverford.
Bates, Bowdoin, Middlebury and Lafayette and yes Haverford is known for a supportive group of kids too.
Dickinson and St. Lawrence are two others. What are your stats like through junior year?
Muhlenberg, elizabethtown.
Thank you both for your suggestions; I will research further!
@2019Parent I am a sophomore; just researching for fun My stats are decent as of now. (Not sure what stats you are asking for?)
@weiqian Many students gravitate to schools in the top 10 or 20 not realizing how difficult they are to get in and then get frustrated. They miss schools that are excellent because they focus on rankings not realizing the differences can be quite minor. You need to find a group of schools that are commensurate with your ability to get accepted, and even then it is a game of odds. “Decent” for the schools I mentioned in the first reply would by the top 3 or 4 percent of all students unless you are recruited for sports, then maybe it falls off slightly.
