Hey, I want to go to a school in the city, like New York or Boston, My GPA is 3.2 and I have a 1940 on the SATs. Any Ideas where I should be looking? I'm planning on maybe majoring in Psychology with the plans of going to med school after school.

Pitt, Temple?

Maybe Fordham University for a reasonable reach? Keep up your grades. It’s medium sized and Catholic.

what can you afford? have you run the net price calculators for Pitt, Fordham, and Temple? It’s time to have The Talk with your parents and sit down with them and their latest tax return and run the npcs to learn what these city colleges will expect you to pay. College cost is a priority consideration when you plan on med school. Med school will cost a great deal and, unlike undergrad, there won’t be any financial aid at most of them. Anything you can do to minimize u/g debt should be done, including giving up on city schools, which tend to be more expensive. And you do understand that a 3.2 in college won’t get you into med school?

Fortunately price range is set pretty high for colleges so that is pretty good. Also I do understand a 3.2 GPA is not sufficient for med school but that is primarily due to not really trying in the first few years of high school. Also Fordham is one of my top choices and I was thinking of applying early action. While I appreciate the Temple and Pitt recommendations, I was looking for Boston or New York due to their proximity to my home.

If you can get your SAT scores up (2100+), Boston University might be a good choice, and would Northeastern. Both schools give merit aid to kids who are academically competitive

a super match search produces some interesting choices. plug your data and desires in and all kinds of schools turn up in and nearby NYC and Boston.

I’d get a guide book and read up on colleges on cities you like, also look at USNWR list of colleges to pick out ones in cities you like and research them further. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities
