Stanford is easily in my top 3 dream schools. My mom, on the other hand, says hell no because I'm from the east coast (Philly) and she says moving in/out, vacations and just coming home in general will be a struggle. Do any east coasters have any advice/tips on how you and your parents dealt with the long distance?

Any family out there? You’ll visit every break?

It’s really not that hard. If you have a lot of stuff, you can just ship it to campus, and it’ll be waiting for you when you arrive. You yourself can just fly in. No XC driving trip required.

The only difficulty would be the price of airplane tickets. You’d have to buy at least 4 tickets per year (coming to campus, returning for Christmas, returning for Spring Break, and returning home).

That’s 6 tickets (3 pairs)

And going home for spring break is certainly not a necessity. Probably less common than going home for thanksgiving

I’m in the east and to take town travel costs I’m not going home for thanksgiving or spring break (thanksgiving break is only two weeks before winter break anyways) and I’m shipping my stuff to campus. You don’t have to worry about repeatedly shipping stuff because students store there stuff over the summer with storage centers that cater to students. Booking flights well in advance (which is easy given the academic calendar goes through 2020) is a good way to take down airfare costs.
