Does anyone have any information about ENMU. I received infromation from them from the College Board site because it matched some of my son's interest of majors. It looks like a 2 year type school but with a 4 yer degree program. It appears to be more affordable for us being from out of state because of the WUE but I want to make sure it's a good school before we go any further. It's location is somewhat isolated from any big cities. Any information would be helpful.

Is it in portales? or the one in Roswell?
I lived in Roswell for four years and the area is really horrible. I don’t think Portales is much better. I don’t know anything about the quality of education, but you student may die of boredom or drink themselves silly.

Road trip! There are gems everywhere but you have to go treasure hunt for them. ENMU I don’t know about. I do know that the little college in Socorro, NM (NM Tech?) is one of the few places in the country where one can get training in explosives. It is a tiny specialty and they do it very, very well.

Eastern NM tends to be conservative Christian with lots of folks working in oil fields or agriculture. Excellent pheasant hunting. I wouldn’t ship a kid off to a rural area without visiting to make sure it spoke to the kid’s heart.

I love New Mexico. It is an amazing state – but your comment about a 2 year school with a four year program makes me raise an eyebrow. Make sure the school is accreditated for the degree your son is seeking. You can also poke around the school website and learn about the professors that would be teaching in your son’s field. A small college like this one could have a very pragmatic, hands on approach – or it could be rinky dink. More research needed to know.

New Mexico Tech is a very good school if you want to get into engineering or science. It is located near breathtaking parts of the state, and is quite close to the Very large Array. I don’t know if this is still the case, but it used to get a lot of international students. It is also quite inexpensive.
Eastern New Mexico is quite the different animal. It is a small regional school without much of a reputation. I graduated from high school in that part of the state and most people would only go to ENMU as a default.
