What are the easiest intro classes at amherst? tryna take advantage of that open curriculum

SECOND this question

I’m going to be a freshman this year…from what I’ve heard from upperclassman is that intro to psych and intro to geology are pretty easy classes. apparently most math classes aren’t too difficult. idk anything else

It’s your life, but I think you should challenge yourself.

The greatest value of education is not in the degree, nor in the job it can get you, nor in the grad and PhD programs to which it can open the door;

The greatest value in education – in your world-class Amherst education – is the education itself.

You wouldn’t be the first student(s) to duck the harder gen-ed classes in favor of Rocks For Jocks or Plants And Man (I took the latter at UW… a Botany intro class…). But I urge you to reconsider it.

Rather, I think if you take the, idunno, 12th Century Russian Political Studies class instead of Women In Film… you will feel the fullness of that work in future years. Or at least at a party when your date is a bore and you need to begin an interesting discussion.

I think that first semester freshman year it is perhaps valid to choose an “easy course” just for the sake of its easiness. You should also remember that freshmen have the opportunity to drop one class in which they are struggling. However, I can definitely tell you that the students that are most fulfilled academically are those that choose the classes they want to take, rather than the ones that are easy.

It’s distressing to read that students who are going an intellectual rich institution like Amherst are searching for the easiest classes. Perhaps you selected the wrong college if ease is what you’re seeking.

Whenever I see students who are actively seeking easy classes, I feel like AdComm made a mistake. Especially in the case of Amherst students. -__-
