I'm looking for any kind of easy courses to take. I'm trying to take it very easy as a 1st sem freshman so I can acclimate to college.

Cornell offers over 4000 courses. What’s your intended major? What interests you? Is there any subject you thought you’d like to learn something about but haven’t? Even a course with a median grade of an A/A+ can be stressful if you have no interest in the subject.

I think most people find it easier to set aside 3 hours to study for a subject they love than set aside 30 mins for something they hate.

Also, what do you mean by easy? I’d consider intro languages “easy” in that you know exactly what you need to do to get an A, but getting there requires a ton of time consuming work. Whereas with some other subjects, what you need to memorize is very minimal (not time consuming), but ends up being difficult because you have to figure out how to properly apply that knowledge to a wide variety of questions (and studying time can vary and often you’ll have trouble figuring out how much time you need to study).

Classes with a median of A are so, so, so rare - and median grades don’t really tell you how hard you’ll need to work, so be careful

Some of the hardest classes in workload I’ve taken have had the highest historical medians.

Thanks for the responses ^

I think I’m getting caught up by trying to get the highest grades possible instead of actually exploring and learning new things. I gave up trying to just find “easy” classes.

Maximizing GPA really isn’t a fulfilling way to go through college. I only support the decision to choose classes based on GPA if you have your heart set on law school, since getting into a good law school is important and not having a high GPA will eliminate you from contention at top schools (no matter what your rigor is).

Greek myth/Roman experience pending on which one is offered
intro to Cog sci (pending on professor)
intro macro/micro classes if you’ve taken either in HS
intro to music theory (only if you have background/have taken)
intro to China/Japan/Korea are all supposed to be pretty easy.

Alternatively just take classes which might sound harder that you want to learn about and take it pass fail if you’re afraid of adjusting.

That’s not true.

^Sorry, let me specify: on the intro level, much of which freshmen/sophomores would be looking at

I actually do have my heart 100% set on law school.
Maybe I’ll take an intro Asian class since I’m possibly interested in majoring in it.

Does anyone know if Astro1101 or Oceanography is the easiest class to fulfill the science req? I definitely wouldn’t take any weeder science courses.

I was also trying to find the easiest math course. I got a 5 on Calc BC, and wanted to take CalcI again in college, but someone advised me to take Stat instead.

Astro I heard isn’t as easy as people think it is (I have science major friends who have taken it and said they were hoping it’d be easier for an intro level class). But it still might be the easiest to fulfill the req.

The easiest math is most likely the stat class in PAM, I heard that class is literally a joke but I did hear they have been trying to make it harder (though I doubt it’s changed by much).

By reputation, I think any of the stats (ILR, PAM, AEM) are considered pretty easy (basically at AP Stats level, maybe slightly above). Avoid Econ/Math stats though; those are quite difficult.

As for easy classes, check out some of the AEM classes, or Hotel School business classes. Languages aren’t necessarily hard, but they will be time consuming at the intro level (and if you don’t put the time in, you will get bad grades).

A very easy class is ECON 2040 (Networks). You’re almost guaranteed an A/A- if you do the work and study. I’m a MechE and had no background in econ/networks; If I can get an A+ in that class, so can anyone else.

thanks for all the responses

Astro 1101 is really easy, just memorize lecture notes
oceanography intro supposed to be
PAM Stats with Lewis really easy
and pretty much any psych class, but i might be biased

^ Does level of easiness mainly depend on subject or professor? I heard Astro1101 was really easy with Lloyd, but the professor this year is Terzian.

Both? The answer really is it depends. Some courses are easy no matter who is teaching it, others are not.
