Hello,
I've am a transfer student who has been accepted to UCLA for Fall. Last November when I was applying, I didn't now if I wanted to do Molecular Cell Bio or just gen. Biology. I applied to Cal and got into there MCB major because I didn't notice the option for IB(Intigrative Bio aka General Bio). After taking an MCB class i found that I love MCB. After visiting UCLA, I feel that I am better suited there than Cal.

My question. How hard would it be for me to change my major from Biology to MCB at UCLA? I heard it is difficult to switch majors in very competative departments. I know that MCB is competative as hell at Berkeley and it must also be at UCLA.
Thank you for your help.

you are a transfer student as in transferring from a cc to a uc as a junior? i thought i read somewhere that switching majors for a transfer student is not possible. you are assigned to what you applied for permanently, because they admit students based on their major first and then the review factors.

like someone else mentioned, both require the same pre-requisite classes anyway, so it shouldn't be difficult to change. you've basically completed the pre-requisite core requirements (for both) and now you're just trying to declare your speciality/major.

Yes, you can apply to change your major during orientation... Talk with your orientation counselor about that. To change majors from MCDB to striaght Biology and vice versa, it shouldn't pose a problem.

I got into UCLA undecided and I have heard comments of the difficulty of the Biz Econ program, would it be difficult for me to declare my major in Biz Econ? Oh and another Q, when and how do we find out who our roommate is? THX

"would it be difficult for me to declare my major in Biz Econ?"

you have to declare "pre-biz econ" first, which is really easy. but then, you'll have to complete the pre-biz econ requirements, and then everyone applies for the biz econ major. it's somewhat competitive.
