So, I will be contacting all of my colleges with updated EC information. I also forgot to add on some of my other ECs (3 to be exact) that do play a role in my life. This would put me at a total of 13 ECs... well technically 12 ECs. Most have been done for four years... 8/12 have been done for four full years and the rest have been done for 2-3 years (including senior year). The ones I want to add are:
Religious studies-- HUGE part of my life-- 4 yrs... I study not only my own religion a ton, but others as well. I will tie this in with another of my ECs (learning arabic for four years)
Organization for collection of money for heart disease- 2 years
Volunteeer work through high school through various programs and clubs- 4 years,

I want to make sure that the school doesnt think about me having too much breadth and not too much depth... any advice? Should I not include the heart disease one?
Also, what is a "good" number of hours/ week for ECs... Mine seem to be too high with these 13-- approximately 25 a week. Any suggestions with this? Thanks! I tried to be as honest as possible, but things I thought I would still be continuing NOW, havent happened

I find it hard to believe that these ECs play a big role in your life if you forgot to put them on your application, and I imagine adcoms will feel the same way.

If you think that things such as religious studies arent a big part of my life, you are VERY mistaken lol.

When I said that I forgot about these activities, I meant that I did not upload the additional document with these activities on the “further information section” on the common app.

I’m going to be honest and say that if you put 13 ECs, I (and probably adcoms as well) would assume that you are, as you put it, going for “breadth not depth.” They would much rather hear about 2 or 3 ECs that really mean the most to you.

If you’re doing 25 hours a week for 13 ECs that’s roughly 2 hours per EC per week, which is not very many. Something you’re really passionate about would usually take much more time than that. Any of those ECs that are less than 2 hours you shouldn’t even mention.

In my applications I talked about 4 ECs and thought that was a stretch. I got into my top choice school whereas those people I know who “laundry-listed” 10+ ECs got rejected from schools they deserved to get into. More passion, less items is better.
