Hey, lately I’ve had something on my mind and I’m a bit stressed out about it. I’m going to be a Junior in high school this school year, and the classes I’m taking are as follows: AP Psychology, AP US History, AP Biology, AP Language and Composition, CP Pre-Calculus, Astronomy and Chemistry Honors. I’ve only taken two AP Courses before this year, those being AP Human Geography my freshman year and AP World History my sophomore year. I’ve been an all-honors student through high school and middle school, though. My GPA is hovering around 3.7 unweighted and probably about 4.6 weighted, I think. I passed with mostly A’s, 2 B’s and a C. I also have two or three college credits for engineering thanks to a program sponsored at our school by a nearby college.
I’m stressed about extracurriculars. I did band in my freshman year (after three years in middle school) and decided it wasn’t really for me. I also took journalism 1 that year, that also wasn’t for me. I’m not in any clubs, but I’m thinking about joining the earth club / recycling club this year and maybe literary magazine. I don’t do any sports and I haven’t garnered many volunteering hours thus far.
I know I need to try and get some ECs to put down, but I’ve been so overwhelmed because I feel like I’m hopeless at this point. Any ideas on what I can do to get some decent ECs? Am I just too late?
I’m not really planning on going to any huge college, or anything. I’ve got my mind set on one college with a gpa requirement a good bit lower than what I have, and the credits I’ve obtained in engineering are provided by that school. I don’t want to go out-of-state, but I might. I don’t really know yet.
Am I doing okay, or do I just suck and need to deal with it? What can I do to garner some ECs this year and next in order to have a decent amount?
Thanks for reading!
