EC RESUME Help, please.. thanks a lot.

Some people make EC resumes like 8-10 pages long. If I describe briefly each activity and highlight several activities, would that be sufficient? Also, would it be a nice idea, if I plan on continuing it in college, to describe my contribiution to the particular college. I.E- If my activitiy is dance, would it be nice talking about the dance programs, groups at the college and how it could impact me?

From all that I have read, and from what an educational consultant told me, keeping the resume down to 1 or 2 pages, at most, is optimum, just like resumes for people seeking employment.

Perhaps someone else could address the other part of your question regarding going into more depth on the ECs... My son's basically states the EC, a brief description and what is done. On the Common Application, there is a column in which to mark ECs one plans on continuing in college.

Duke-- what is the purpose of your EC resume?...attachment to common app or carry-along to interviews, or other? Format & content depends a bit on your intended use. 8-10 pages sounds way too long regardless of use though, I've read one page, maybe 2 tops.

Don't write essays on your resume! List your important activities along with a BRIEF (1-2 sentence) description of what you did and how you contributed, along with any awards you received or positions you held (like being a tutor at a volunteering organization or secretary of a club). If you want to write about the college's specific programs and how excited you are to benefit from what they have to offer, save it for your interview or an essay. Sometimes they'll ask "why do you want to come to ________ university?". Then you can talk about their specific programs.
