The rodman thread reminded me. Does anyone know the kind of stats you need to get this?

someone from my school last year got it with 1450 SAT, ~6/~275 rank, band and cheerleading were her main ecs... sorry, but that's all i know.

Grades, SATs, APs, and Teacher Recs are the most important factors, and I would venture a guess that they are important in that order for Echols. Its a great program, and very hard to beat the freedom and support you get with any other college offer. If you don;t get an offer immediately upon admission, but do sufficienmtly well your first semester, you can apply to the program as well.

It's ECHOLS, not ECHOL'S. Are you the same dude who started the "jefferson's scholars" thread? lol.

u can apply for this anytime in ur 4 years of college right?
do u think 1300, 4.43 gpa,, 65/488 is goodenough for this?

you don't apply.. they automatically look for it when you apply to uva (i.e. no forms, etc...)

If you are a high school senior, you join the Echols Scholars program by intivitation (ie you get an invitiation in the Spring of your senior year).

If you don't get an invitation then, but do well your first semester at UVa, you can apply to the program. I am not sure, but I think that you can apply any time through the end of your second year.

I can't say for sure with your stats crichessill, but I bet it would be borderline.

Echols is generally offered to the top 5-8% or so of the incoming class. It is typically offered to those top students as a means of attracting them away from other top schools such as Duke and Cornell (the Echols website says something to this effect). I think if you are top 2-3% with 1450 and solid, intellectual essays, you will have a great shot at it.
