Echols Scholarship Results Thread | EA/RD 2019

I don’t actually have any results to post. Has anybody heard anything, one way or another? I think the emails are supposed to come sometime this week!

Please remember that these are scholars programs, not scholarships. The vast majority of the money at UVa is dedicated to the need-based financial aid program. The scholars programs (there are four of them) give you some extra perks, but they aren’t going to affect your tuition bill.

Any idea when the early action admits will find out whether or not they are a scholar?

@Dean J: I apologize, I intended to refer to the Scholarship Program. CC won’t let me change the name of the thread for some reason

The notifications were put in the mail yesterday - see the latest blog post

D just received her Echols Scholar letter! She is so excited. We’re in Northern VA.

@Wtbenz‌ Congratulations!! Would you mind posting your D’s stats?

My daughter just received Echols letter, so thrilled!! Va. Beach

To future posters -
I think it would be very helpful for other applicants (yes, including myself), if you could tell us your stats, ECs, etc, (whatever you feel comfortable with disclosing) in addition to posting that you were accepted to Echols/Rodman. Maybe something similar to what people are doing on the UVA EA 2019 Results thread?

This’ll give us all a better idea of what the scholars programs’ acceptance standards are, and whether or not we can hope to get in as well. Thanks!

Echols/Rodman/CSS are not about statistics. I’m sure that if people posted theirs, they would all look wonderful. If you read the pages for each program, you’ll see that there’s more to it.

^ I agree with Dean J, both in terms of Echols/Rodman/CSS and also simply admission to the University as a whole. I truly believe that UVA has a holistic process, and stats are not as important as you may think. I was accepted to SEAS as an OOS applicant, and I can tell you my scores were not phenomenal for the applicant pool (especially my SAT II scores). I think recommendations + essays say a lot more important (just my guess) than stats. Class rank does seem to be pretty important, though.

@"Dean J"‌ If we were accepted Early Action but didn’t get Echols scholar, do we still get a chance to become an Echols scholar around regular decision time? Or are the Echols scholars for the regular decision round only chosen from the regular decision applicants?

@MrWiggles, technically, this could happen. Realistically, I think most Echols/Rodman/CSS apps jump out at you and you weren’t defer them to RD.

There is yet another chance. Students can apply to join the programs once they are here. There is more info on the program websites about that.

@"Dean J"‌ Are the people being notified about Echols only EA applicants. If you applied RD, should you still be expecting an Echols/Rodman notification?

@UVaalum10, I covered this in the scholars post on the blog. There is another round for RD later.

Son got a letter from uva today was excited thought maybe it was Echols notification alas it was a form letter from pres Sullivan almost the same as the one in the ea acceptance packet.

Yeah I got my echols letter yesterday,
