ECON 1 Books -- Do I buy one or both?

I am taking Antonovics for Econ 1. There are two books -- one required, one recommended.

Required: Frank Principles Of Economics (ucsd Custom), 4 Edition

Optional: Frank Principles Of Economics Study Guide

Do I really need both? Is the Study Guide used by the Professor or TAs.?

Also, I notice, each ECON 1 professor has a different Final Exam time. This of course rules out a common exam. What is Antonovic's finals like? and her grades?

Any help is appreciated.

They won’t require you to use the study guide. It is just there to help and provide outlines of each chapter/concept.

Each ECON 1 professor does the class in their own way. The finals/tests won’t be the same.

yikes, is that the 8am econ? i had that first quarter last year. try not to miss class because there are some things taught in lecture that aren’t in the book.

the exams in her class are i think 25 multiple choice (50 for the final), and then a few short answer questions that have graphs which you have to draw supply/demand curves into, and you have to explain what is happening and why.

i didn’t do too well in the class since i only went once a week for most of the quarter, but if you actually go to class then the course isn’t too hard overall. make sure you’re really awake when you get to class, too, because if it’s in the price theater the seats are really comfortable and easy to fall asleep in.

and the lectures are straight off a powerpoint - you print out copies beforehand and then you fill in the blanks and take notes on them during class. and for homework she uses aplia. it’s awful. make sure you don’t miss an assignment.
