Econ 1 with Delong

I’ve been so confused in lecture lately :(! Anyone feels the same or it just me… Problem sets are ok, but the concepts for some of the lectures are so shady <_>!

Took it with Delong last year for as a major requirement (didn’t do that well but I just had to pass). His lectures don’t directly relate to the problem sets or exams and so all you can really do is to rely on your GSI in section. Horrible class.

so glad i dropped. lulz

^ I need one more unit so I can drop…ARGGHGHGH

if you really want to drop but can’t find anything, i’d suggest trying to volunteer for a unit.

How does that work? Is it the strawberry creek thing?

I’m not sure, but are you guys struggling on the problem sets? I’ve been getting like 80% of the problem set so far, so I hope the exam will mirror that… I’m still paranoid since you’re all panicking!

Oh dude! No! I’ve been getting everything on the problem sets, it’s just his lectures and the reading. And now that the GSIs are trying to push more “concepty” things into the exams and problem sets, I’m worried about actually having to understand what he says and actually having to read through the books (as opposed to just skimming so I’ll know what to write for the essay).

Based on previous years, everyone say the exam is basically the problem set…? They said 10% usually relate back to the reading (which I really need to catch up… no idea how we can finish 60-100 pgs per night err)… didn’t realize that evil textbook till week 2 lol. Thought Dasgupta was the textbook -___-!

is Dasgupta going to be on the midterm?

I feel like it. Our 3rd problem set has a Dasgupta’s question on it so I bet he will include those on the midterm.

I don’t think we have to worry about the textbook if we can solve the calculations and stuff in the problem set/sections. The “reading” would be Dasgupta…and probably the other one we should have started.

But ^ is what I’m worried about. I’m hardly halfway through Dasgupta.

meep there’s a lot of opportunities for 1 unit volunteering. you can always go to tolman to check them out or look up the ed minor website. take note that 1 unit = 45 hours of volunteering though. and with about 11 weeks of school that means nearly 5 hours per week :|

Oh damn. That’s more time than I’ve been putting into econ atm haha (well…not including lecture/section time)

do you think one can perform well on the midterms without the textbook? i mean, just with dasgupta.

there’s two other books needed for the class px6…it’s not just dasgupta and text…

Ye, Free choice and the strangers? But ye we have textbook + 3 outside readings lol! Can’t wait to read all of them…? Lol.

yes, i meant with only the supplementary texts.

…do you think one can perform well in the midterms without the books? xP Do any of the other econ profs have outside reading like Delong?

“Why did Friedrich von Hayek deserve his Nobel Prize?” Wonderful. * Definitely * acing this midterm.
